CHDK for new Canon PowerShot SX200 IS?

Hello,

I am considering to buy a Canon PowerShot SX200 IS and test its Smart Auto features in macro or miscroscopy mode (still, video HD and HDR modes)

If correct optical link with microscope can be set (www.martinmicroscope.com??), my expectation is to make life of scientist easier via the inbuilt automated scene and other photography paramater setup adjustments.

I am impressed by the CHDK features, which would obviously be useful in this context.

Any chance to see a specific CHDK build for Canon PowerShot SX200 IS?
Any chance that SX100IS build could work, without beeing harmful for the camera? (I doubt, as this model include a new DIGIC 4  processor)

Thanks for any information

Guy Mayor

PS: If this helps, I can buy one at my own risk and try to provide information on the
firmware.

A port being done depends on a developer having the camera. This is essentially random, there is no schedule or plan.

Every camera model, and almost every firmware revision requires it's own unique port. There is zero chance a port for one model will work on another.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

we really should create a sticky thread about this particular question so you dont have to type it in everytime it comes up. don't you think? or is something like that somewhere already? faq maybe?

hope it helps  ;)

Would a firmware dump help? I got my SX200 a few days ago and can try dumping the firmware. By the way, it's really a great camera. Good image quality, video quality, and manual controls. Dpreview thread with impressions: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1010&message=31394130

How would I go about dumping the firmware? Is it different for DryOS cameras like the SX200? Is there a page with instructions that would probably work with the camera? I tried using a ver.req and vers.req file earlier, and it didn't seem to give me the firmware version.

How to dump a NewDryOS fw:
1) You can dump your fw with Cardtricks (use "NewDryOS" method)
* Use Cardtricks with an empty SD card (max. 2GB size !),
select your card, press the NewDryOS button, read all the messages carefully & follow them.
* Lock the card (important !), insert it & start up the camera - you'll see NO activity,
just wait 30 seconds, then remove the batteries & the card.
* Insert the card in your card reader, start Cardtricks again, select your card & press Strings.
* Now you should see some strings from the firmware; close the window, click Clean in Cardtricks,
then store the cleaned dump on your hard disk.
* Zip this file and upload it somewhere, e.g. at a free file hoster like http://www.zshare.net,
then post the link to this fw dump on this thread here in the forum:
