CHDK-Shell Problems

Don't know if it's because of my computer, but when compiling the sources, there appears an (nasty) error:
create_child_process: DuplicateHandle(In) failed (e=6). Stop. ???

I'm working with CHDK-Shell v208. It has to be a problem with gcc but it should be downloaded and installed right. I also tried it in my virtual machine, same error, also when compiling without chdk-shell and setting up the environment variable.
Is that error my fault or is it a mistake in gcc??

It would be nice to know how to fix this ::)

Adding info about your environment would be helpful. OS? Did it work with previous versions of chdk shell?

Hi Frank

This kind of errors are usually caused by 'gmake' or by 'sh.exe' - if GCC itself has a problem (other than faulty code) it will
mention something like 'Internal Compiler Error'.

First of all, i just tested Shell 2.08 with both GCC 3.4.6 and 4.3.3 on trunk 719 for your cam - no errors on my machine:
Win XP SP2 / Pentium M 1.73 GHz @ 2 Gb memory

So let's check some stuff:

1) can you give some details about your computer: operating system, processor, memory ....

2) what were you compiling when the error occurred (trunk version, did you modify it)

3) was this your first use of CHDK-Shell ? If not, did previous versions work OK ?

4) about GCC, which version did you use ? If you installed the full pack, did you try compiling with the other version ?

can't think of more stuff ATM,

wim

My computer:
amd athlon dual-core cpu, 2,2GHz with dual core optimizer@ 2Gb memory,

The operating system is windows xp service pack 2, the gcc version is gcc_env_for_hdk 3.4.6.
When I got the mistake I was compiling the latest trunk without any modifications (trunk 719), but the error also appears with the trunk 300.

When i started with chdk the shell worked, but after some months i had an error that t001.zip or t002 would be missing. (maybe this was already a newer version? don't know)
Then i erased all of the chdk stuff and downloaded everything again and there's the next error.
Could it be a file infector virus?

@frank

i've not been able to find any reason for the error here. as Phyrephox mentioned, GCC does not play nice with
(some?) Logitec webcam drivers, so please check if you have any ...
Another thing you could maybe try: reinstall your gcc from your own archive or just download CHDK-Shell latest
FULL version, which includes both GCC 3.4.6 and 4.3.3 - generally using the newer version of GCC is preferable,
the binaries will give you ~ 10 kB more free memory on your cam than the old one.

wim

PS there's a freshly released 2.10 full version ...

@phyrephox: I never connected any webcam to my pc, cause it's offline xD
thanks to whim, I'm currently downloading the 'fresh' Chdk-Shell, just in case there were some download problems.
If it doesn't work - well, maybe my friend can compile it for me ;)  cause it seems as if I am the only one that has that problem. I'll check my pc for viruses, could be that i got some from my friend XD

Good News for all CHDK-Users: There's no mistake in the CHDK-Shell!!
Bad News: There's a virus on my computer which likes to infect GCC (and all other .EXE-files). It's called Win32.Virut.56, found it with Dr. Web. After desinfecting with Dr. Web it works; a short time, then GCC is infected again. So I'll have to reinstall WinXP, make no backups of exe-files(or scan them carefully). I hope the virus is away after that!!!!!
Thanks to all people that tried to help me!
