What's the story on the open cover lid ? If you're trying to get CHDK to run with the lid open,
that could well explain it - AFAIK most PS won't run with lids open (with or without CHDK)
Also, note that bootable.exe is a PC program (Cardtricks uses it to make your card bootable)
and there's no need for it on the card.
Recheck your card in CardTricks to see if it's FAT, not FAT32, and if it says it's bootable.
Then copy DISKBOOT.BIN to the root of the card (not into any folder) and lock the card
It should then boot (after you closed the cover lid)

Thank you Very much!!! for the tip on rechecking the partition format as I did initially format it as Fat16 but it got changed to Fat32 somehow.  Got rid of unneeded files as you pointed out, made sure the SD card was bootable, locked the SD card and up my S80 booted with the CHDK!

I'll go thru the testing and report back what I find.

Thank you again.

BTW,  retried my Gm1.00H S80 with the corrected SD card and it would not even power on when I opened the lid or hit the play button.  But boots fine with the Gm1.00G S80.

Thanks again!
Charlie

Yeah, normally every firmware version needs it's own port. You could give dumping the firmware for 100H a try,
you can use CardTricks "Create/Inspect Universal Dumper Card" for that, with VxWorks option.

Some testing results after 3 days of usage:

RAW feature turned on and creates CRW file in a separate directory from the Jpeg files.
Manual Flash control works in all exposure modes.

Movie clips as disclaimed causes the PS S80 to reboot itself continually until function is moved to another selection.

If you have Enable Fast Ev Switch selected under Extra Photo Operations:
    - the PS S80 reboots if you depress the ISO top of wheel to change ISO speed in AUTO/PROG/AV/TV

When I'm in script and go to the bottom of the screen to choose "back", it does nothing when I hit func set or any of the arrows.  Can just hit menu again to exit out of script.

I'll report back more as I keep using the camera.

Thanks again for the work on this hack for the Canon Powershot S80.  Let's us know when the next version for testing comes out! :) :)

Forgot to mention that the CRW files were not readable by my Photoshop Elements 8.0.  I'll try converting them to dng and see what happens.  I would have thought that ZoomBrowser would have been OK with these files.

CHDK CRW files are just binary dumps of the sensor data, and are not the same as official Canon CRW's;
CHDK tries to use only 'known' extensions for image data, otherwise USB transfer with the Canon software
would fail ( or something like that: you'll have to ask somebody who actually uses USB transfer if you
want to be sure )

To View the image CRW file you got from the CHDK Hack for the PS S80:

Using the Adobe Digital Negative Converter 5.1.0.30 did NOT complete converting a file without errors.
No luck with Photoshop CS2 with the Camera Raw 5.6 update or Elements 8.0 with the Camera Raw 5.5.0.97.
Canon's Zoombrowser 6.4.1 could not handle it either.

But Picasa3 had no problems with the CRW file.
Even better IrfanView 4.25 could view it and convert it to a dng file format; after the conversion then any of my Photoshop programs could use the file without any further problems.  You can use the Batch conversion function to convert all your CRW images so it's much easier than doing them one at a time.

Now I'm all set and happy with the CHDK hack for the Canon Powershot S80.  Just waiting for the movie capture function to get fixed.

To download CRW  try a cardreader.
Photomatix can open the CRW and can convert to HDR pic.

Nevertheless, congratulation for the hack!

Thanks to Revivery and the CHDK developers for taking over where Canon left off!  I've waited 4 years for this hack and now I feel I have a brand new camera!

While I'm still waiting for the video function to get fixed, the following CHDK hack has given me very important changes:
1. RAW capability
2. Manual control of the flash output in all exposure modes (not just manual exposure) - this saves my battery power when I use the internal flash to trigger my external slave flash.
3. The battery indicator % of charge left in the battery pack - lets me keep track on how well the pack is being charged up before I start shooting and lets me know how much I have left so I can decide to change out the pack if I'm going to shoot a long session where I can't afford to get interrupted by the need to change the battery pack.
4. A fancier histogram than what Canon gives you by default which you can look at to help evaluate the captured image.
5. Time of day in the LCD display
6. Customizable display where you can move the info and icons around on the LCD display.

There's more options, but these are the ones that will help me enjoy underwater photography!

I can not get a dump using the cardtricks formatted sd for vxworks or Dryos.  Tried many times to pop the battery & SD chip out and wait 30 secs.  But the empty.dum file did not change.
Any other tips on using cardtricks to get the dump of my PS S80 GM1.00H firmware?
