RAW Cropping?

Using my Canon A570IS with default JPEG mode I really like using JPEGcrop for basic cropping. http://jpegclub.org/

Is it possible to make a similar basic cropping software for RAW or does this have to be done after converting to JPEG?

Thanks

Steve

Well, you can crop a DNG file and when converting to JPG, you get the cropped image.

The good thing is that no information is lost, the cropping process consist in writing the coordinates of the rectangle to the DNG metadata, so you can come back one year later and do a different composition.

Hi wontolla,

"you can crop a DNG file"  Thanks for the information.

Have started to search for DNG photo editing software and found this "Besides Adobe Photoshop, several other software programs provide read support, and sometimes write support, for DNG files including: ACDSee Photo Manager, Aperture, ExifTool, DBGallery, DigiKam (0.10)[14], FuturixImager, ImageMagick, IrfanView, Adobe Lightroom, SilverFast DC, The GIMP, VueScan, XnView.[15]"  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Negative_(file_format)

Am interested in any comments or recommendations.

Thanks

Steve

Try Rawtherapee (freeware with donation well accepted :) ) or any other raw-converter software (many have a non pro free version) ;)
