Some microSD and (much more rarely) some SD cards will not allow the 'BOOTDISK' signature to be written to the first sector

That would explain the behaviour i.e. the new dryos is actually working but it is not booting properly.

Unfortunately the camera was a present so I have only got a 8GB real SD Card (and no card readers - i.e. I use the camera itself to access this SD Card). Instead I have 3 different microSD cards (1GB, 2GB and 8GB) which I can access directly with the computer.

I guess I will need to buy a small SD Card and a card reader in order to give the OS dumping another shot.

I just wanted to give an update.

I have obtained a Lexar SD 1GB card.
I have followed the instructions as above. However the results are still the same i.e.:

1) "new" dryos --> camera does not visibily power up and after 1 minute when removed no dump has been generated
2) dryos --> camera loads up immediately states that the card is locked and that "no image" is found again after 1 minute when the removed no dump has been generated
I have not tried VxWorks and the generic udumper (in case is different from the cardtricks one)

for more ideas how to get your dump, you might want to check the
A2000 dumping thread here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,2766.0.html
methods and/or solutions might apply for your cam as well ...

edit: please read this post -> http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,2766.msg25981.html#msg25981 first - summary: to start the
dump on your cam, use the power / on-off button, NOT the play button:
on several cams booting with the play button resulted in empty dumps ...

Thanks for pointing to that forum.
Unfortunately using the power button I get the same results as using the play button.

I suspect that unless I also get a "random" dump that is not repeatable I will be unable to dump the firmware.

I have now tried all the alternative boot files (including the nopad).
All of them result in the black screen but also to an empty dump.

I am actually starting to worry that the panel on my camera might fall off from excessive usage :)

I was wondering if during the last months any alternative approaches to obtaining the os dump for this camera.

I am not necessarily asking if someone has done the dump but if there are new approaches I should try to create the dump and upload it here (beyond the ones I have already tried and mentioned in this forum).

Thanks for any input.

Yes, see this thread starting here http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,3347.msg34355.html#msg34355

Basically, we've got FI2 files to load on one of the new cameras that has trouble with udumper, but the old udumper method still doesn't work. Blinking the firmware out with and LED does work.

You need to be a programmer and possibly have some electronics knowledge to do anything useful with this information.

Thanks for the update - it was an interesting read though unfortunately I lack the ability to act on it (lacking both the programming and electronic skills).

I guess I shall wait that a new udumper is made or that someone with better skills than me dumps the ixus 95.

Thanks.

If there isn't a developer with those skills who has access to the camera, there's little need for a dump.
