Hi I was wondering if there were plans to release CHDK for the SD1200 / IXUS 95 (which I am assuming is the younger sister of the SD1100 / IXUS 80)

Hi, welcome to the forum !

CHDK, being an open source project, does not have any central planning  :D
As you mentioned, this cam seems to be Canon's next gen equivalent of the current ixus 80 / sd1100,
so i think we can safely assume that it won't be too long before somebody starts porting this cam ...

In the mean time, if you own and/or have access to this cam, you could start off the porting process
by making a firmware dump -  under Windows you can use CardTricks (link in my signature) to do this.
( use the "NewDryOS" option for your cam, and a small SD card, the one supplied by Canon should do )

I have tried using cardtricks - however I do not understand how to use it.
I have run the dryOS option on a 1gb card.
I have locked it as per instructions (which leaves me puzzled on how it can write the strings)
I do not understand how to ensure my camera is in play mode rather than shoot mode (i.e. when I switch it on it turns to shoot mode and then I have to press a button to see pictures, I do not have a way to start it immediately in play mode)

Anyway regardless of locked/unlocked (tried both) when I insert the 1gb card  the camera does not turn on at all (black screen no anything). I wait for 60 seconds and then check the card with cardtricks and I am always left with empty.dum that is empty (and no other .dum file).

when the camera is turned off, insert the prepared card, and then press on the play button (i suppose the ixus 95 has that one too? blue triangle). the cam will switch on then, even without you pressing the "power" button.

The lock doesn't actually lock the card. It just holds a switch (on the reader) which in turn tells the software the what position the lock is in. If the software ignores this value, then it can still write to the card.

Thanks for the replies.
They have made much more sense of the process.
Regardless I am still getting no signs of the camera switching on when I insert the sd card (and no strings being recorded).

I wonder if this is due to the fact that I am using a microsd card (1gb) with an sd adapter.

No sign of the camera switching on is normal.

I have tried with dryos.
So the results so far are as follows

1) "new" dryos --> camera does not visibily power up and after 1 minute when removed no dump has been generated
2) dryos --> camera loads up immediately states that the card is locked and that "no image" is found again after 1 minute when the removed no dump has been generated

I have not tried VxWorks and the generic udumper (in case is different from the cardtricks one)

Some microSD and (much more rarely) some SD cards will not allow the 'BOOTDISK' signature to be written to the first
sector, please retry with a real SD card of 4 GB or less; I'm not sure what Canon is putting in the box with these new
cams, but if it is an SD card, use that (i remember several cases where switching to a Canon 32 MB card made it work)
