I don't have any problem playing the default sx1 1080 video on my pc (no jerky picture o stuttering), but with chdk installed I can't find a good setting. Almost every non-static video is jerky with vlc player (quicktime is a bit better, but some stuttering is still visible).

...As hard it may be: It is crappy Windows OS...

I also have a OSX (New Generation MacBook, 2.4Ghz, Nvidia) and there all my Video's from my SX1 (with or without CHDK mod) are running smooth and fine... If I use Windows Vista on the same HW (Macbook with Bootcamp) it is stuttering terribly....

Also on my PS3 (streaming the files from my Synology Drive) the videos are fine.

I think it is not the SX1 Codec that much, than your Viewing Plattform...

@KingOtto: This "bug" is an "old" one, and existed since....(see in this thread round page 16?)...

fboesch,
I'm extremely sorry that I overlooked this "old" issue and therefor somewhat polluted this thread.

Though I'm disappointed a little that AF continuous shooting does not work, I'm somewhat glad that I'm not the only one having to deal with this for the time being, hoping that all "great" devs here are able to find the solution.

So now, is there a way of not loading CHDK on startup without changing cards, so that I can use default Canon AF continous shooting in Sports mode while using an 8 or 16 GB sdhc card? Because when I unlock, in order not to load CHDK, I end up in my small 2 MB FAT partition and thus have no available space to take pictures???? Maybe something like a temporary swapping partition option in the bootfile and not loading the rest of CHDK as an option to the user could be built in? Or is there any other way to do what I want besides using another memory card?

@all: I still intend to recheck the SX1 (2.00h) CHDK code later and find perhaps the modifications needed. But hence: My Cam + CHDK are "hobby" and different than in the beginning (March/April 09, bad weather season here in Switzerland) I'm quite busy right now (work, golfing, rc modelling & taking pictures with "beta CHDK" while weather is good).

First things first fboesch, life should be a joy right? Us non-devs can only wait and hope for your kind efforts (and others) to make CHDK even better than it already is.

Concerning the crashing cam I can tell you that it feels like the cam is trying to get into focussing mode and showing live data again while trying to save the picture (picture is actually not saved though before it crashes), and then does not know what to do anymore, resulting in total shut down (have to restart cam).
Maybe this helps a little in order to know where to look more specifically?

Thanks and hopefully you don't ski, leaving you some time to look into this problem this winter :-)

Cheers

Hi King!

No worries (repeating question) :)....meanwhile this thread has grown that much, that I understand one can't read each message :)

It is indeed cumbersome, that our SX1 is in a 95% working condition (a.k.a. "BETA")...but as described: The SX1 is different than all other ported CCD Cams....(checked back to S5, S2 etc their code is similar to SX10....).

Now regarding the "Memorycard" Swap....There is just a one-way-one-time way you can switch the partitions....go To CHDK Menu and choose "Miscellaneous Settings" --> "Swap Partitions" --> + "Unlock" the SD Card....now you switched the partition and can use the full 8/16/32GB SD (minus your 2MB CHDK partition) ....However: You can't switch back without PC/MAC... :(

I use to have CHDK loaded, but no override set....like this I didn't encounter any major problems.

....and now bad news: yes I do ski/sknowboard..... ;-)

P.S. (I'm not a developer, but I'm working in IT business......Actually I started to "dig" into the Porting Stuff  because I wanted that my SX1 with CHDK as I'm used to my S2IS...just to let reads know: You all may be able to work on it...(it took me about 2 weeks time until I understood, what to do, then 3days for sniffing/finding hex-adresses in original FW code to be entered on Sourcecode of CHDK Port)...so in the third week, there was a first startup....)

Hi fboesch,

You are lucky living in Switserland and thus having all those beautiful mountains around you. I'm from the Netherlands, no skiing here... :-(

Two questions though on your reply:
1. Are you trying to say that not using any overrides will let me shoot pictures in AF continuous mode or do you also encounter the same issue here?
2. Do you think it should or could be a feature request enabling users to swap partitions back and forth? Obviously you then "always" need to load part of the autoboot file first, build in some tricky stuff like a user menu option to choose to either load ONLY that part of CHDK which now also lets us use the camera with a locked card or (2nd option in menu) to load the complete CHDK? Like with Windows, where, as an option,  you can choose which DLL's to load during boot? I think that many users with >4GB cards would appreciate such an option for those spare moments you quickly want to use only the standard Canon features or to bypass this or similar bugs for the moment using but one card. Would that be possible?
If so, I will be happy to place this issue in the feature requests section.... No post needed if it is not possible in the first place...

Thanks again...

King Otto

Hi,

I have an SX1 with firmware 2.01A. I have loaded CHDK but it doesn't automatically switch to the larger partition and as such my memory card always reports that it is full. If I do a manual switch over using partition switch, I can't use any of the CHDK features because it doesn't boot from the larger partition. I am using an Extreme 16GB card formatted into 2MB FAT16 partition and the rest as FAT32.

Should the larger partition be a primary partition or an extended partition? will this make a difference?

I formatted the partitions using Ubuntu live CD and Cardtricks to make the smaller one bootable.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

If anyone needs anything testing on 2.01A I am willing to help where I can.

Hello & welcome, Stuart !

Yes, both partitions must be primary; the first one must be FAT12 or FAT16 formatted & CHDK bootable !

I've now tried the above but unfortunately changing the second partition to primary didn't work.

I then came across the sdminste.exe which is an excellent tool for formatting and creating/swapping partitions under windows which I used to completely reformat my card.

Even after this my camera still did not switch partitions after booting.

I then tried reformatting the card in the camera to see what type of FS was allocated, I then re-formatted using sdminste.exe and finally changed the larger partition to W95 FAT32 (LBA) using Ubuntu & FDISK (this what was reported after formatting in the camera directly).

After doing all this I now have a running CDHK system.  :D

Now I'm off to look for some scripts - in particular time lapse and motion detect so if anyone has any pointers I'd be grateful.

MD: Fast MD with burst/preview mode by fudgey (guidance).
...you'll find lots of scripts with detailed descriptions in the german forum.

Hi Fe50,

I had found fudgey's script and have it working on my camera. Just checking out all the cool stuff on the German Forum. Very well organised.

autobuild 816: Fixing a bug from way back that slipped through the cracks http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,3410.msg33952.html#msg33952

the debug_led is now disabled. If someone wants to find the MMIO address for the blue DP LED, that would be helpful.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
