From The default settings for Video in SX1 (from dim to bright)
is ISO 1600 , 1/30,  f/Min (2.8 ~ 5.7 depending on lens position)->
ISO 1600,  1/40 f/Min->
ISO 1600, 1/50 f/Min>
ISO 1600, 1/60 f/Min>
ISO 1250, 1/60 f/Min>
ISO (1000->800->640->500->400->320->250->200->150->125) 1/60, fMin>
. . . (ISO GENERALLY SCALLED DOWN)
ISO 100, 1/60 f/Min>
ISO 80, 1/60 f/Min>
ISO 80, 1/60 (f/min 2.8 -> f3.5 -> f4 -> f4.8 ...-> f8 fMAX)
ISO 80, 1/75, f/8 -> (SHUTTER SPEED ONLY INCREASED as last step as lignting increased)
ISO 80, 1/100, f/8 ->
ISO 80, 1/125, f/8 ->
ISO 80, (1/125 -> 1/160 ->1/200 -> 1/250 ....), f/8)

This is too bad to shoot sports using SX1's default VIDEO settings which caused
MOTION BLUR !!!!! (which CAN NOT be voided using it's stupid IS lens)

IS Lens reduced hand shake, not motion blur.

That's why the demand for SHUTTER SPEED OVERRINDG is extremely begged.

It would be great to shoot using ISO 400 or higher, and f/MIN (2. 8 and HIGHER SHUTTER is R for Sports shooting HD Video.
Even the mode set to SPORTS, the Video taken still followed this SH*T range.

I wish someone came do something to fix this.

I am planning to use SX1 as a full time video camera, because its quality is far more superior than any standard HD camera of ~$1000  for outdoors. I don't care for the big file size beacuse the storage costs now is too cheap. The  1TB hard disk costs below $ 100, thats 50 Hours of HD Videos from SX1 IS using its default quality without CHDK.

just, YES, THE SHUTTER PROBLEM!

It would be great to
made possible SHUTTER SPEED/ISO/APAETURE OVERRING in its HD VIDEO mode.

Yes but try to jam a 1 TB hard disk into SX1 and you see the problem ;). More seriously, I guess it all depends on how long you need to film continuously. If not long, then you can of course swap SDHCs like crazy :), and transfer the contents into a HD during lunch/coffee break. Or something.

BUT we are fast going off topic here. And also asking new features should not be discussed in this, the _porting_ thread.

I've been shooting for more than 10years. My first video cam was Canon UC5500 (8mm tape, now still functioning =P  ) . My other Digital Video Cams includes Sony TRV480 (D8, Quality OK ), Panasonic SDR-S7 (quality OK, but got problem editing in Premiere or After Affect), Sony 52 (This one Quality not OK)...
...

...and I just get this SX1 IS ... Wow!!! COOL man ! Video resolution is TOO COOL, (shooting indoors got noise , but still better than any other of my cams when scalled down to 720 X 576  (I am from Malaysia, using PAL system )

My 1TB is partitioned into 4 parts of 240 MBs, so far so good =P

About SD Card, at first I am using 8GB and 4GBs ... really makes me MAD until I get 16GB and 32GBs.
At least I can shoot about 50 mins at 16GB and 1.6 hours in 32GB card.

There should be no more argu on the storage. Quality matters. In addition, storage cost is no longer a problem. (remember that I purchased a 8GB hard disk for MYR 700 , about USD$ 200 in 1998)

THE ONLY THING that makes me mad is unable to set SHUTTER SPEED in SX1 IS HD MOVIE mode. Actions did not stopped, look like there are taken using shutter 1/60 in Video mode, even I push to Sport. It just seems that the movie settings are exactly same at all dial settings. BAD!

I hope some one can make possible to the firmware, so that there is a SHUTTER PRIORTY in movie mode. So that i can shoot at 1/500s or 1/1000s HD movie using SX1IS. XD

p/s: Sorry, I am new here, can you show me which page should I visit regarding my problems of "asking new feature" ?

________________________________________________________________________________________________--

Another "BIG THINGS" I found in my SX1 IS just now is the default 1/60s video shutter will be changed by the Canon Firmware itself to 1/50s to suit in my country's light system, after I point to the electric powered lightsource which runs at 50Hz.
The screen is flickering using 1/60s for 50Hz lighting, "the Canon firmware is aware about it, but don't let user to set default 1/50s)

But when camera restarts, it reverts into default 1/60s.

Another BIG THING #2, is that it is possible to FOOL the camera to run at f4 (or f3.8 ?) when the zoom is widest with shutter speed higher than 1/60s (or 1/50s), but ISO is still 80.

Switch to video mode, then zoom the lens to max position 20X. point to the cloud or very bright objects.
The iris should be in f/8. Lock the exposure, and decrease the exposuere ( to get higher shutter).
Zoom back to widest. The Apature remain open wider as f/8 at 20X position equals f3.8 at widest zoom.
Now video shooting is locked at ISO80, f3.8 (instead of f/8) and a high shutter.

Do not adjust the exposure, because this will turn the iris to f/8 immediately, and mean time slows down shutter a lot.
If you want to increase exposurer a bit, zoom to 20X then increase the shutter then zoom back to widest.

Then you can still enjoy shooting sports outdoors using ISO80 f3.8 with higher shutter, say 1/250

Hello.

This is my first post in this forum and first of all I would like to thank all the people contributing to make this great piece of software.

I'd like to help, so I've modified the standard grids that come with CHDK for the SX1 screen, as they didn't fit in it (were displaced to the left, because of the widescreen format of the LCD). I managed to center them, so they fit correctly on the 4:3 mode. I've not done them for the widescreen mode, because it implies a total rewrite.

On doing this, I detemined the size in pixels of the screen, 480x240. I hope this helps to correct the issues that CHDK is showing with this LCD (eg. the messed edge overlay).

Here is the link to the grids. Simply uncompress them on the CHDK\GRIDS folder of the SD:

Is there a step by step guide somewhere to install the chdk on the memory card? (16gb)

I have zero experience with chdk.

ahh got it started. But is it normal for chdk to "flicker"
It flickers on and off 1-2 times a second

And can i turn chdk off when i dont want to use it, but still on the card??

hey guy's, Ive use started checking out this camera and came across a remark on flickr about chdk getting an avrage of 7fps or ssp. is this true ? ive tried reading page for page but keep only getting to page 12 or 14. thinking bout this camera insted of the xsi due to less to cary around and a nice in between of a dslr and my old a720is. love chdk on my 720 and want a dslr but would end up giving the 720 to my step daughter. 7 shots per second would be sweet.

If you are using a multipartition card, you have to make sure the scripts are on the large one, not the small one with the chdk boot files.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
