Remote control (not remote cable)

I know that some Canon cameras have (used to have) the capability to be controlled via the usb cable by the Canon program "Remote Capture". My old S40 had the capability and I could use my laptop just like a giant viewfinder. But I've been saddened to discover that neither my new A590IS nor the SX10IS is able to do this. Is this something that CHDK could enable? Or can it already do this and I just haven't discovered it?

Canon has removed this feature on all newer Powershots, also on the "better" ones like the SX10  >:(
CHDK can't help here...

Well, that's a kick in the teeth...   :o
Do you think that the remote control capability could be added to CHDK? Should I make a post in the Feature Request forum? Or is it not even a possibility ?

Since we don't have full control over the USB port, this is not (yet) possible - maybe some  day, but atm that's very improbable.
