Appreciate any suggestions/tips how to correct under exposed RAW photos.

Searched the forum but found nothing.  If I missed something please provide a link.

    Thanks

    Steve

    Hi bugmenot,

OK will do as you suggest.

What sliders do you suggest?  Also what is the most underexposed DNG photo that you have been able to correct?

    Thanks

    Steve

i am told that underexposition cannot be corrected as much as overexposition. for the latter part, see for example this.
anyhows, this is not a gfx forum, it is more of a geek and (point & shoot-) photography forum.
recovering under- or overexposed raw shots is "an art" for itself, and a thousand different people use 2000 different techniques & tools to do that. anyhows, i think it can be done with most programs that support either the raw files or the dng files, there are a lot of free tools available, check for example "raw therapee". like bugmenot said, work with the sliders, read tutorials about raw editing & the rest will follow :)

    Hi PhyrePhoX,

Thanks for the comments and link.

Agree with "recovering under- or overexposed raw shots is "an art" for itself" and "this is not a gfx forum, it is more of a geek and (point & shoot-) photography forum"

Am hoping that if we get many comments concerning what has worked best maybe we can get some "collective wisdom" and save some trial and error.

    Thanks for your help

    Steve

i am told that underexposition cannot be corrected as much as overexposition.

It is in fact just the opposite.
There is a lot of detail in underexposed pictures that can be recovered in RAW while overexposure can only be recovered by a very limited amount, simply because the detail is not there. What was never recorded by the sensor in the first place can not be recovered by RAW software.

Here is a link to a nice case study. http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e30-hirec.html
