Can't get CHDK installed on G9 using Ubuntu

Hi all,

I'm having trouble installing G9 (firmware version D) using Ubuntu Linux.

Following this blog post, I formatted my 4 GB SD card in-camera, then used hexedit to write BOOTDISK at position 0x40, copied "DISKBOOT.BIN" and "PS.FIR" onto my SD-card via the card reader, slid the "Lock" on the SD card and turned the camera on, but no CHDK boot screen or any special menus appeared. It only says "Card locked!"

Am I overlooking something, or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Hello & welcome, BioGeek !

You say " I formatted my 4 GB SD card in-camera" - the camera formats a 4GB card with FAT32, but the autostart mechanism needs FAT16; format your card on the PC with FAT16 & it should work...

You can also use the manual loading method ("Firmware Update" from the Canon menu)...
