Taking pictures from the playback mode

I was wondering, is it possible to tell the camera take a picture from the playback mode, with the lens retracted? I mean, just take the picture, not try to extend the lenses, focus, etc.
Or will the camera complain about the lenses not being ready?

The sensor is powered off in play mode... (You are trying to work around lens errors?)

Yep, that's what I would like to do.
Is there a function to power on/off the sensor, or is it part of some bigger function that does the whole thing, including the lenses?

Sorry, don't know about that...take a dive in the disassembly and find out  :P

There are several tasks devoted to shooting and controlling the sensor. Convincing them to run in the wrong state, or replicating their functionality would be a huge amount of work.

Hmm, then maybe tricking the camera to think the lens is already extended? I guess it saves that state somwhere and then check if it is already extended or not. So setting the right variable MIGHT work.

It will not be a single variable. A large amount of state is changed when switching modes. Tasks are created or woken up, propcases change, variable change, hardware is initialized.

The only way to accomplish what you want will be extensive analysis of the factory firmware. If you want to actually accomplish something, that where you need to start, rather than idle speculation.

I was talking about a variable to make the camera not exend the lens, I was not talking about one variable that changes the whole state..

No, first you need to determine if it is possible, and then you do an extensive analysis of the firmware.
