Please do.

I added a section explaining the difference between manual and autoboot and how to install if you only want to do manual boot. Its the first time I've edited a wiki so I hope I did it correctly. It answers most of what *I* was confused about when I was trying to install the CHDK, so I hope it helps someone else.

I use the chdk on my SX230 and SD1100 cameras, and I installed them using a Macbook, currently running 10.6.8.

The '-la@' is nothing
True on most unix, but not on osx. See  man ls(1)

-@      Display extended attribute keys and sizes.

Quotes work fine for me with [ quote ]blah blah quoted text[ / quote ] (minus the spaces, obviously)
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Seems fine to me.

Can't argue that. Thanks for the correction.

Mac users don't all have the same experiences, I've been able to use Firmware Update method since
it became available for my camera (A720IS), it was not a drama to load to SD card (although 4GB not 8GB).
I used the Mac Applescript to prepare the card, with a couple of variances, without need to do any
Terminal procedure at all.
Even though I do use AppleOff (an application) to clean removable storage media of .DS Store and .Trashes files,
those do not stop manual or auto start.
A720IS.

Of course not, I don't think I said they did. Anyway, what version of the Mac OS do you have? I wonder if the difference was in the computer, or the particular camera build...

Hmm maybe that's the difference then, since I'm on 10.5. If I recall correctly its only with 10.5 that they started having those "this application was downloaded from the internet, are you sure you want to open it?" messages. I haven't looked for a way to turn those off, but personally I never use them-- meaning I have never once said "oh wait, you're right, I don't want to open this application."
