Hey guys.. I just started using CHDK and I love it... However I need help with taking Long Time Exposure pictures. Whenever i take a picture more than 15 - 20 seconds, it always comes out absolutely white, but i have seen people do it for 60+ seconds and their pictures look just  fine. I've been told that i need to put aperture settings down, but problem is that i don't get any aperture settings in my camera using CHDK. The camera i use is Canon IXUS 80IS. Everything else seem to work fine with CHDK. Is it just that my camera doesn't support aperture? or did i miss something? I saw the aperture related settings in user guide, but i don't see them on my camera. please help me.

ixus doesnt have an iris aperture. it has an ND filter. and long time exposures are only neccessary when there is no light. doesnt really make sense in bright daylight - unless combined with a strong (way stronger than the one in your cam) ND Filter.

uhm. what _exactly_ are you trying to do or achieve? do you wanna just try long exposure for fun? normally people try to achieve a special look. for example milky water or star trails. the latter one can be achieved at night without nd filter.

yes i'm trying milky water.. but i thought that was only possible in daylight for good results? even at night, if i use shutter speed for more that 30 - 40 seconds, it becomes over exposed. here's an example of milky water which was shot during daylight. This is something i'm trying to get.

well, if you shoot it at night, you dont need to buy an expensive powerful nd filter. for a 64 second exposure in daylight you need a DAMN POWERFUL one. thats why people do these shots in dim light or at night. well, if you shoot against the sun or moon, pics will be overexposed, yes.
