I know that this is an old thread (and I'm sorry if there's a newer one related to this topic), but I tried using the current version of Adobe DNG Converter, and it appears that the option for compression has been removed.  I tried going from DNG to DNG in Lightroom, which I've read will compress automatically, but the resulting DNGs aren't anywhere near as small as the ones created by dng4ps2 from actual .CRWs.  Is there another program that everyone's using for compressing the CHDK-generated DNGs?  Thanks.

Adobe DNG Converter can do this.
It's freeware and publicly available from Adobe website.
Nice GUI and many options ...
But latest dng_validate.exe still can be used to compress DNG files, see -dng option.

dng4ps2 generates only 10bit DNG. So if your camera has 12bit sensor then DNGs compressed with dng4ps are about 4 times smaller than camera DNGs compressed with Lightroom.

I mentioned that I couldn't find an option to compress in Adobe DNG converter.  It looks like that option has been removed in the latest version unless I just can't find it.  Does anyone have an older version installation file for DNG Converter that still has the compression option?

As for dng_validate.exe, if I have an existing image.dng, then do I just put:
Code: [Select]
dng_validate.exe -dng image.dngand then I'll end up with a compressed image.dng.dng?  I purposely put the extension twice because dng_validate.exe says this:
Code: [Select]
-dng <file>   Write DNG image to "<file>.dng"

Adobe DNG converter 5.7 for Windows:
(translation from Russian) change options (button) -> compatibility (combobox) -> custom -> without compression (checkbox).
