SD630 USB remote possible?

I am new to CHDK and this forum. I made a cable according to the instruction from wiki. I enabled the remote in CHDK menu and loaded the script, but there was no shutter release when I applied the voltage. I tried both 3V and 4.5V without any luck. Just wondering if anyone has successfuly tried the remote on SD630. Your help is very much appreciated.

Try the simple script below. If it never prints a number then there's something wrong with your switch.
Code: [Select]
while 1
    do
      a = get_usb_power
   until a>0
   print a
wend
end

Thank you Zeno for your help! I have tried your script but it never printed a number. I took a couple of shots of my set up. Can you please take a look and let me know if there is anything wrong?

Have you tried just plugging an ordinary USB lead into the camera and then inserting the other end into a computer USB socket (which will apply 5v until you unplug)? If the script still doesn't print a number then the fault is in the camera software although the SD630 CHDK code certainly does test the usb socket.

First of all, USB cables removed from 'non standard'  devices do not always have the usual colour coding.
I have a cable from Motorola hands-free earphone in -ve is the screen and +ve is the black wire.
You need to obtain a mini 'B' receptacle (enable Javascript to see image)  so you can put a test meter across the contacts.
Are you sure the red lead from your battery is the +ve one ?

Thanks guys for your help. I tried to plug the camera usb cable directly to the computer with no luck also. And I did use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the wires and contacts, the wire arrangement seems to be correct. I have also tried to sync the camera with the computer without CHDK and the camera was recognized by the computer so the usb connection should also be good I guess.  :(

Your USB connector seems to be OK so I guess you have not enabled the remote switch in the menus.

(not sure which menu in CHDK, I do not use it).

Aaaaaahhhh  ......  you are just the person I am looking for  !!!

I only rememember IXUS names so did not recognise the SD630.

CHDK does not support the USB remote on IXUS65/SD630.

HOWEVER, SDM does !

I added support some days ago for a French user who does not speak English so it has been very slow progress.

Contact me directly with an email address and I will send you a DISKBOOT.BIN that will tell you immediately if your switch is working (which it probably is).
