On some cameras, the IS detects the tripod and shuts-off. From my SD700 tests, it is better to manually turn off IS for long (over 1 second) exposures.

Regarding IS turn off, Ewavr made in his own 710 build possibility to autoturn off IS when exp > 1sec...
In his code there are functions to start stop IS. :)

I really enjoy the workflow we have here, whenever an idea come up it expands very quickly 'out of the box' (at least my box...) :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I think we are missing the data on speed of motion right now, and if we have it -It might be better to start off with a script to switch between ISO AUTO and ISO HI.

Anyway, I'm attaching the camera-independent Custom AutoISO code here, feel free to integrate it into SVN (it has the previous suggestion you made implemented already).

Hi mkmenuts,

Thank you for the source, I will add Custom AutoISO to my upcoming private release.

But I'm not able to add it to the trunk. I have been blamed by AllBest to change "his" trunk code.
Obviously, there are territorial claims and invisible border lines, but no-one talks about.
I asked in the forum: What are the rules? - no reply.

I'm not willing to work out the rules the hard way, by trial and error/punishment. Sorry.

Hi all,

I have 2 more ideas for Custom AutoISO, please comment...

1. Add an Auto-Off for IS above some exposure time (e.g 1 second) - Assuming this will be done on a tripod. This will replace the missing IS On/Off button on compact cameras.

2. Add an option to "Avoid overexposure". This will reduce the overall exposure (by 0-1 EV) via an ISO reduction based on the histogram data. This is better than manually doing expo correction because it is both automatic and reduces noise.

Your thoughts?
