Reyalp: JPG format, not sure of the speed of the card....best I have gotten is 5.5sec

Scattered: I think your plan is better, would love to see the schematic.

I will keep working on the timelapse, i have not figure out how to make burst mode work...it never works on any camera I have tried....even though it says, it takes the x# pics after the shutter is pressed....only stores one image.

As it happens, the sample regulator ICs I was waiting for arrived yesterday but I ticked the wrong box and got a couple 5x6x1mm surface mount chips, so I built reg with LM2576T-ADJ which is best available at local store - it's 71% efficient at 300mA out, 77% at 1820mA out.  Parts < US$20.
LM2576T-ADJ-12V-to-3V-at2A-circuit
LM2576T-ADJ-12V-to-3V-at-2A-prototype

I've had the a590 take +/- 1Ev 3 shot sequence for timelapse HDR with daylapse.  I set the burst in cam's custom 'Drive Mode'.

Cheers!

So help me out...if I put it on burst mode, no CHKD, and just shoot one shot...should it not take more than one?

I set mine to 1second dealy, 7 shots...but still get one jpg on the stick.

Try setting it for lower resolution?  Maybe there's not enough memory.  I have mine on Av priority, IS shoot only (non-CHDK timelapse use), no flash.  I've done 10 shot sequences full resolution no problems on a590.  Sorry cannot think of anything else at the moment.
