Hi I am a novoice to this stuff.
This is the firmware of camera.

Canon Powershot A620
P-ID:30FC PAL
GM1.00A
E18
July 7 2005

What CHDK should i install on my camera. I tried this version a620-100f-0.9.8-778-full.zip but nothing changed in my camera.

On Inserting SD Card with CHDK software (after making bootable with unlocked SD Card) and selecting the Update firmware option from menu, The LCD screen goes blank and no option comes further even after waiting 5-10 min. After that I am also unable to switch off the camera from On-off button. I have to remove Batteries from it to restart.

Can anyone pls guide me what's wrong i am doing with my installation process.

Thnx

P.S sorry for my bad english.

You need to update the Canon firmware on your camera to 100f.

I have done that with my A620.

Make sure that you use fresh batteries or an external power supply.

Unlike CHDK, this permanently alters the firmware in your camera, just make sure you do not interrupt the firmware updating process.

Read http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._How_can_I_update_the_original_Canon_firmware.3F and get the firmware update from here

Thanx for ur assistance.

How much time does it take to update the firmware with fully charged batteries And what is the process to update. Can a new firmware be uploaded to a camera from the Canon Compl. if it get DEAD (while updating firmware with bad batteries).

-> should be done in less than 5 minutes, use full/fresh batteries & a small, fresh formatted SD card.
-> Canon support should be able to flash a new firmware to a "bricked" camera - but this probably is more expensive than buying a new camera  ;)

The update procedure:

That was me (i.e the guy from Singapore). I have upgraded my A620 from firmware 1.00E to rev 1.00F. The memory card error message wasn't a big issue as I'm still able to continue taking photo shots. So the integrity of the SD card was never compromised. I then succeeded in installing the HDK afterwards.

By the way any guys who still have the older version of A620 (1.00E) can also request for the firmware upgrade file from me. I received the copy from JP (freedom2000) earlier. Thanks to him my camera can now accept the HDK mod.
Just a reminder on how to upgrade the firmware to version 1.00F:
1) Copy the "PSA620.FIR" into the root directory of your SD card
2) Insert the SD card into your camera
3) Insert fresh set of batteries into your camera
4) Turn on the camera in playback mode
5) Hit MENU button
6) Scroll down to the bottom of the list option and choose update firmware
7) Update will take less than 1 minute
8) Your camera will turn off automatically afterwards
9) Optional: Wait about 5 minutes before switching on your updated cam

10) Now your A620 should be showing version 1.00F with the dummy file "ver.req" as explained earlier on this forum
11) After that you can install the HDK mod :)

Good luck !
