G7 - unable to install, manually or with script on OS X

Hi, little problem here.
Camera: Powershot G7, firmware 1.00i, 1GB Lexar Media card
Computer: MacBook Pro, 10.5.7 - new one with built-in SD card slot

Actions taken:
Tried manual copy instructions. I'm no newbie with terminal but I'm getting lost at the stage "Open BootSector.bin with 0xED." "with 0xED"? syntax error there I think, 0xED is a memory reference as far as I know, not an application a file can be read with...

Ok, so I give up on that one for the moment, I can't figure out what's missing from the instruction. Let's try the script instead. I note that the file that downloads is a zip, and Safari/Finder automatically unzips it for me which sounds handy, until I start running the script and find that it needs a file and not a folder for that stage. Selecting DISKBOOT.BIN gives an error and the instructions suggest the entire thing should be selected. So I compress the lot and select that, and the script gives the following error:

Could not complete copying files!
Message: cp: /Users/$username/
CHDK_unzip_location/CHDK: No such file or
directory; Number: 1

If I click OK, the script says it installed successfully, but the SD card has no files on it.

*lost* please help!

0xED is the name of a third party program. I suggest you read the http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac#Software_needed: more carefully.

It's important that you understand the instructions. Attempting to just blindly follow them or guess could result in losing data from your Macs hard drive.

As for running the script, I would suggest NOT automatically unzipping the file, since the instructions for the script don't tell you to do this.

Ok, thanks for pointing out the hex ed, that straightens out my brain.

Re the losing data, I'll be ok, I know which instructions have a risk of that, and besides there's always nuke and pave... but a note for you about the unzipping - this seems to be the default behaviour of Safari - as soon as the file was saved to a folder, it was converted to a directory instead of a zip.

Edit: I've just discovered that this is due to a new feature in Safari 4, to disable it you need to go Safari > Preferences > General and uncheck "open safe files after downloading". Dunno if the wiki ought to be updated to reflect that.
