Can I take InfraRed shots with A590IS?

Hello all.
I'm wondering will Canon A590IS shoot InfraRed light (with InfraRed filter), or I will need to cut-off the IR filter glass that blocks IR light, which is in front of the CCD sensor?
I have readed that a floppy disk or a developed film will work as InfraRed filter, but someone told me that is useless because of the IR filter glass in front of the CCD sensor...

Please help me, I'm really interested to try it and maybe tomorrow will have result with the floppy disk, but I'm skeptical about that  :)

I did some pics with 2 layers of developed film and a a640, pretty nice results, though probably not as crisp as with a proper filter. But fun. You will need long exposures in bright daylight without removing the ir-filter.
The easy way to check your cam is to look through the live preview and press on a remote controll (tv cd player etc), if you see a light your camera is ir sensitive.

Great! I will post examples tomorrow, I hope it works. The camera can "see" the light of TV remote  :P

I guess if you don't remove the CCD's filter you will need long exposures because very little IR light can get in.

The problem with opening the camera and removing the IR filter is that you need to replace it with something else, glass or plastic. Otherwise, the camera won't be able to focus given that it is designed to have the filter. I did it with an old Nikon and with two pieces of developed film and now the camera only focuses to close objects.

My recommendation is don't cripple your camera, better get an old one. And bear in mind cameras have a large capacitor (to fire the flash) so you gotta be careful if you don't want a nasty sock.

So, I try with Floppy disk and here is the result
ISO200 F2.6 and 0.6s exposure !!! (without the Floppy disk is 1/1000 with ISO80 F2.6)

Is this IR or what?

Mmmmm, my I guess is it didn't work.

Living things, like leaves, are suppoused to reflect most of the IR light and should look "whitish".

If you search for infrared, floppy disk on Flickr, you will see that people postprocess their pictures, B&W etc. May be you should do that.
