Powershot lens?

New to the forum long time CHDK supporter. I was wondering if you took a Powershot and butchered it into a case that would have a focal flange for lets say Canon FD lenses. Would that in turn cause the Powershot to throw a fit over the lense missing? Or is there a way to trick the camera into believing that the lens is still there? I've been thinking the idea for sometime. Thanks to anyone that can help ahead of time.

It has already been done with a point and shoot. I do have a guide on it. Sorry I cannot give you any details at this stage. I cannot find the guide.

If you Google you will find guides.

There is one guy who used a web cam, butchered the case and mounted a telescope lens in front of it.

You can also try Instructables or the robotics sites

Won't work for two reasons:
1. The camera has a CCD sensor, which REQUIRES a hardware shutter. Without it, you will get 3 lines with 3 different exposures.
2. The camera will [admin: avoid swearing please] about not being able to move the lens and stuff.

If Canon can manufacture a product which works, there will will be someone somewhere in the world who will modify it.

FOR EXAMPLE - CHDK

The only limiting factor is the resources you are prepared to put into it.

NO amount of software modifications will turn a CHDK enabled camera into a profession DSLR.

The limitation is the quality of the CCD and lens.

Therefore if a person has the desire to modify something do not talk them out of it, give them some encouragement. At least they may learn something which one day be a benefit to them.

ie Hacking Canon CHDK compliant cameras may not turn the camera into a pro DSLR but the software writing experience may just get that person a job to earn the money to purchase a pro DSLR.

Alright, so I need a little help. I am attempting to shove a Canon SD630/IXUS65 into a film back for my Bronica S2A (1969 huge mechanical camera). Hopefully = cheap digital back.
Unfortunately the SD630, after removing the lens, flashes a lens error and shuts off. Booting CHDK gets me closer, but the error still flashes and about 5 seconds later, again forces the camera off regardless of the state of CHDK.
Any tips, settings within CHDK, anything at all would be very appreciated. I am using ixus65_sd630-100a-0.9.8-782-full.zip as my CHDK version.

This would, as Radup said (and contrary to what databoy posted), require major hacking. If you aren't very good at disassembling ARM code, it's not going to happen. If you are, then good luck and post your code ;)

he removed the lens. it works. so it should be possible with FD lenses. However, those FD lenses are made for a MUCH bigger sensor, so i guess you either have to attach the lenses directly on the sensor (thats a nono :D) or you will turn a 100mm lens into a 600mm (or more?) lens, depends on the actual distance to the sensor. And doing a crop like that, i guess you will lose the benefit of the better lenses (at this magnification!).

Thank you for the tips and especially the link. I basically am trying to do the same thing, take the lens off of the camera without it becoming nonfunctional from errors. I was hoping for settings CHDK internal, but oh well. It's a good summer project right?
