Ixus with CHDK = full manual mode

Hi,
as this is my first post on this forum, i'd like to say "hello world!" and thank for providing such useful source of knowledge in the net.
While running query for "CHDK" on google I received on some page (I guess this was Polish version of wikipedia) information, that CHDK can add functionality of manual setup of time and aperture for those cameras, which usually have only auto and scenes modes (I'm thinking of the new Ixus series models). I tried to  find out if it is true on CHDK official wikia page, in users manual and here, but I can't find such information.
Generally I'm considering buying new A590 IS, but since this is rather old model I could be forced to take one of Ixuses. As I need full manual mode (as in A590) i tried to find out if CHDK will add me such functionality.

BTW A590 have firmware video setup of 640*480 20fps. As CHDK provides possibility of selecting video quality can it overwrite it to 30 fps

Thanks for reply

Hello & wellcome, bondaree !

With CHDK you can set the Tv value either manually from a menu, with a shortkey (e.g. the zoom lever, camera dependent) or in a script.
The aperture can also be controlled from the menu or in a script.
Note: not all cameras has a real aperture, the Ixus (Powershot SD) series and also some of the low-cost A-series models have a ND filter instead; CHDK can control the ND filter on this cameras from the menu or in a script.

--> You can have a look to my wikia page to see some (old) screenshots of the CHDK menu.
--> See also CHDK wikia: Lua script "Universal Tv mode" as a sample for the powerful scripting possibilities in CHDK...

No, only the quality (compression) can be controlled, not the frame rate.

None of the ixus cameras physically have an independently adjustable aperture. The zoom setting determines the effective aperture. They also have an ND filter that can be put in or out.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
