Hello. I'm new to CHDK and enjoying the extra options it's giving me. I have it installed on an SX10is. I'm going out today to buy the parts to build the USB remote trigger (hope it works). But here's my first, of I'm sure many questions. I'm not really understanding the shutter speed over ride feature. When I open the menu, the shutter speed over ride is set to a  high number, like 2048. Value factor is "off". When I set the value to one and tried a picture, the shutter closed, but never reopened. I though thr maximum shutter was 64 seconds, but I let it sit longer than that, and it never reopened. I finally had to open the battery cover to power down the cam. None of the buttons had any effect. I read the manual and read through the forums and haven't seen an explanation I can make sense of. Can anyone explain how this function works? Thanks so much for the help, and for making CHDK such a powerful tool.

The CHDK SX10 port actually supports extra long exposures. 2048 second = 34 minutes!

If that's not what you want, change the values. See http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_firmware_usage/AllBest#Override_shutter_speed_value

Thanks for the link. Very helpful. My problem is, I don't know enough about photography, so a lot of the terms are over my head. But I'm learning. I installed CHDK mainly because it gives me the option of using a remote trigger. Which I made last night, and it works good. Now I'm trying to see what else it allows me to do. I'm having fun.

You can probably find some good introductory photography information on the web. I don't have any links handy, but I'm sure it's out there, and understand the terminology and underlying principles will help you take better photos with or without CHDK.
