Editing WIKI News/History

Some time ago, an unknown individual changed how the WIKI News/History page is edited.

acseven does not know who did this or why.

The present page seems to have News/History hard-coded into the page and editing is not available.

Who is responsible for this and why ?

uhm. you managed to add your sdm release news to the news. how did you do it when editing is not available then? wizardry?
everything is fine.

i dont know who did it. but it happened for a good reason. to be able to edit the news and the main page SEPERATELY. it's for simplicity (i know ur not a fan of this).

btw this is NOT forum related, will move it to the offtopic subforum. wiki stuff can be talked about in the TALK pages of each wiki page. thats what they are created for. plus, acseven can't help you there (for one, he doesnt have more rights than any of us there, secondly, he doesnt use the wiki, so he doesnt know how to use it). i think the guy who knows most about the wiki and how to handle it is FE50.

plus, this change has been there for ages. you managed to squeeze in your sdm news often times without complaining.
or am i missing something?

On my PC, after clearing the Firefox cache, the release does not appear on http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK

this is a problem with the wikia loadbalancer or your ISPs proxy. happened to me a few times as well.

btw if this is the sympton that originally made you write this first post, then this post wins the award for most "wrong or incomplete bug description".


edit: to clear things up, I can see your news on the main page.

DS may well be a wizard, but this isn't an example of it.... I edited it just fine. Too easily, actually. Anonymous edits to the front page? That's bad. News is now back the way that Martin Budden separated it, with News and Features into sub-pages. 27-NOV-08 (Note: NOT MY EDIT. It happened while I had the page open for editing, comparing the diffs... that's creeepy.)

Anyway, whoever has rights might consider making the front page and the news, features, etc pages non-editable by everyone. I don't know who has admin or bureaucrat rights on CHDK Wikia, but there's got to be some middle-ground between draconian and chaos... some of those defacing repairs you've had to make Phyre, while appreciated, were kinda funny ...and easily prevented. :P

No problem here, saw the updated wikia Mainpage & the news also yesterday, one or two hours after your first post, can see it also on different machines...
Try StrgCTRL-F5 from the wikia main page...

I guess you mean the history of the News page ?

As i said, no problem here with the embedded News template in the wikia's main page; normally it takes some hours to show my edits from the news template on the main page, but now, after more than 24 hours ...hmmm, odd.

Since there are multiple buffers & proxies on the wikia infrastructure, maybe the 'old' news frame gets delivered because the main page hasn't changed, so the changes in the embedded template won't be reloaded - browsers and/or proxies maybe did not notice that the content is changed, clients maybe get back a "304 Not Modified" message when requesting the wikia main page...

I made a small edit (meta tag) on the start page, maybe this forces a reload now...please try again, first with a 'normal' refresh (F5), then with CTRL-F5 (force refresh).

Another try: when you edit the main page, do you also see the old content of the news page in the preview ?
