*** Image Stabilization ***

I've been using the CHDK firmware for about six months now, really had no need to post anything until now for everything has been working perfectly.

However, I've noticed one thing that would really benefit the camera in video mode.  When you take a still picture at half press, stabilization is enabled, but when shooting video it isn't.

Is there any chance that this will be a future option?  I saw that there were questions and talk on other models, but not the sx200is in particular.  Of course the option could be right in front of me, just not seeing it.

Thx.
Michael

I did not understand what you mean by shooting video with half-press. You need to fully press the shutter to start filming and then you can release the button. In the original firmware you have the option to chose "continuous" or "off" options for the image stabilization while shooting video. So you dont even need CHDK to enable IS while filming. OK?

Now while I'm here, I would like to ask a question about zooming in movie mode... has anyone tested if the SX200 will miss the focus while changing the zoom steps?

Because in the SX110 I have I can clearly see that everything is out of focus while the lens are moving, but the camera will regain focus automatically if the zoom change was small. If the zoom change was big then I have to use the AF KEY option (by pressing SET), but this is ok for me - I want to know if in small steps the SX200 would keep the video focused because this is important to me.

(or I will have to wait a long time until the SX210 price drops, because the SX200 is cheap now...)

thanks in advance!

Ok, so I did a lot of searching on the forum and the wiki, and found my answer... on the wiki page about this cam the item 9 clearly says that the zooming sound IS high enough to be recorded...

"9 - Mute mic for Optical Zoom in Vidioe record (No function found in camera), suggest post processing of sound to remove noisy zoom: Closed."

and there also is and advice that the camera really will loose focus if zoomed while filming. So if anyone is asking this same question this is the anser. :-(

Just bought the sx200is and I must admit that the CHDK makes it far better.
Thanks to all the guys who have worked on this, especially OldGit.

Just one quick question: Any development for using AiAf in modes other than the easy mode? That would be awesome.

Hello & welcome, amitn18 !

Any development for using AiAf in modes other than the easy mode?
Not that i remember...
You may try setting propcase #8 in a script, somthing like
Code: (sdlbasic) [Select]
press "shoot_half"
sleep 1000
set_prop 8 0
sleep 1000
press "shoot_full"

...probably propcase 8 (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/PropertyCase#Digic_III_.26_Digic_IV) is read-only & this may not work, but who knows, it's worth a try...

Hi everyone,

First of all, congratulations on CHDK development! CHDK is simply fantastic, thank you all!
I am using the lastest 1.00D version (920), but I am not being able to do the benchmarks tests, all I get is a white screen. Nothing happens. Is the SD card benchmark working on the CHDK SX200 porting?

Thanks

@rmcoelhos,
just checked, it does work,
you need to run the benchmark with the camera in record mode (not playback mode).

Note that the test will takes some time, you will see a display that initally says "calculating".

Run the test a second time to get a valid result (as per the wiki instructions).

Hi OldGit,

Thanks for your fast reply. Maybe this is the problem, I was trying it in playback mode! I will try it in record mode tonight.

Hi OldGit,

Running on record mode did the trick! The benchmark ran fine and I already upload the results to the benchmarks page (Nokia and Teamgroup cards on the SX200 section).

Thanks again!

Ok, do this test, and hopefully you will see what I am referring to...

In video mode, go to your max digital zoom (48x), focus on an object far away, and shake the camera just a little.  Yes, IS is enbled.  Great.

Now, switch over to "Auto" mode, go to your max digital zoom (48x), focus on an object far away, then press and hold  HALF PRESS, and shake the camera just a little.

You will notice a huge difference in stabilization between the two.  In AUTO mode while you are HALF PRESSING, this is the stabilzation I am referring to.  It would be great to enable that much stabilzation while in video mode, seeing how now we can zoom in all the way up to 48x while recording.

Thx.
