Hello all you very nice guys out there! I am asking for some urgent help I need with my SX200IS camera. I am building up a camera array from 100 SX200IS to make them shoot all at once from different angles pointing at the same object, then these 100 shots shall be combined into a film, thus I get that "frozen movement" that is shown so nicely in films like "The Matrix".

At the moment I am testing with 9 cameras (one I smashed, damn). So far everything works fine, I built my own remote control and am able to shoot very synchroniously using the "synchro option" for single shots.

So now here is my problem: I woud like to start a "Custom Timer"-sequence from the remote control too, I adjust the "custom Timer" to "0 sec. delay" and "10 shots". But when now using the remote control, the sequence starts immediately when pressing the knob, thus it does not use the "synchro" parameter. And indeed the time the sequence starts is not that synchroniously as it is when shooting in single picture mode.

So as a result of my researches for a solution I installed the CHDK-GCC-Compiler-Shell and I am able to compile a new DISKBOOT.BIN for my camera. But I am no C-skilled programmer and I cannot figure out what to do to make CHDK start the sequence with the release of the remote control.

I wonder how the CHDK behaves when running on a different camera than on the SX200IS. Because I found this here in the thread:

sorry, but have one problem.

usualy:
102    RO    Drive Mode (0,1,2 = single, continuous, custom timer)

sx200is
102    RO    Drive Mode (0,1 = single, continuous)

I it and rules:)

Maybe my problem has something to do with that? Could anyone help me please, I would appreciate that very much!

Thanks a lot... Martin...

Hello and welcome Martin.

You cannot shoot synchronously using the Custom timer.

You could try SDM's Custom timer Tv-bracketing mode (with USB switch) but turn-off the Tv bracketing value.

From memory, I cannot remember if that works.

The synchronised images are taken on switch release (when the leds on all cameras are lit).
Immediately press the switch again and wait for all leds to be lit.

Let me know how you get on.

A number of people have constructed such rigs, the previous largest rig had 57 cameras.

anyone else tested the video possibilities?

Yes, John Hart on the Yahoo SDM Group.
John is a professor at Oregon University and knows what he is talking about :-

He found there was virtually no increase in quality, just bigger file sizes.

There are a number of features from the original CHDK that I would like to remove from SDM.
I have not because someone is bound to complain.

I'm not surprised. If there were significant headroom available in quality, Canon would take advantage of it.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I have a Canon SX200 IS with 1.00D Firmware. And loaded "sx200is-100d-0.9.9-955-full".
But it says 100C in the pop up image at the startup.

Is this normal or is something wrong?

Nothing wrong, at least sixteen cameras can use the firmware of an earlier or later version.

@xartzmax

Totally normal ... the firmwares are identical from CHDK's 'point of view'.
In this case the 'new' zip is created by simply copying the 'old'.
This helps keeping down the size of the source code.

hope that helps,

wim

Go on, go ahead and do it. I cannot wait for SDM lite.
I bet lots of others think the same, they may not need stereo stuff or digiscoping. They do want accurate focal length display, hyperfocal distance pre-sets, PTP and small binaries.

Ehhhh  ... they are not the features I was thinking of removing   :)

Still, we will never please everyone.
