Camera Suggestion?

I found CHDK looking for a way to get the intervalemeter function in the lower end canon cameras but found the model I just bought isn't yet supported (A1100IS).  Should I return this camera and get a different (supported) model?  If so are there are suggested models.  I need IS as its going to be used for cycling, looking for low cost, small size and AA powered.  Or is there any chance of getting the 1100IS working soon.  I can follow the steps and dump firmware and upload and help with that.

Define "soon" - I assume you did a search; you are the first person to mention A1100 since it came out. Is a year "soon"? Not that it will take a year for someone with the ability to get and port said camera, but if a year seems a ludicrously long time, then yes return it... off the top of my head I'd suggest an SX110: small, has IS, runs on AAs, is CHDK supported, and is about the same price.

If you do decide to return it, try dumping the firmware first. :D

I'm reading through the dumping docs now so if I can get a dump how much does that improe the situation.  I don't know what best buy's return policy is, I've had it a week now, maybe too long already.  I guess at worst case i can open it and solder across the button and use a simple timer circuit.
With two kids I just don't have a lot of time to try coding.
SX110 looks to be about twice the price, I wanted to keep the price down just in case I do wreck and break it.  our s3is was around $350 when i bought it a couple years ago.

Eh, BB has a very liberal return policy. It's nowhere near twice the price: $199 @ BB for the A1100... ($159-$169 is normal) - for SX110, from BB, $249 (vs ~$229 online), so it's only $50 more staying with BB. Now, if you could get credit for yours and buy the 110 online, even with shipping charges... but we haven't even covered if you want an SX110, it was just the first CHDK option that came to mind.

Assuming you do, they're going on sale everywhere... zipzoomfly had 110s for $219 recently, but they're out of stock. Why? 'Cause the SX120 has been released as of this week, and Canon will stop fulfilling orders of 110s... although for now, many of our favourite camera vendors still claim stock.  But of course you don't want a 120, you'd be in the same boat as you are now.  Decisions, decisions. :'(

The A1100IS was $169 at best buy,  I Saw the XS110 listed as high as $299 online.  I think the 1100 is being sold cheap now because an A1200IS is coming out.
Even at $250 for the XS110 is getting high in price, our S3 IS was $350 a couple years ago, I'd use it bunt don't want to risk it.
