A570 wide angle and macro lens

Did anyone here try those things? How is the quality with them?
I am trying to decide if I should get them or not. I am pretty happy with ym A570, I have it for 2 years, and it's a great camera, but I'd like to do some macros and landscape stuff with it, for the times when I don't want to take my DSLR with me.

debated with myself many times about this (I am mainly interested in a wide angle, not really into macro).

there is this dealer: www.foto-tip.pl (that btw has good prices on that sort of stuff) that has put a samples page:
http://www.foto-tip.pl/Galeria/galeria.htm
(page is in polish, but you get the point)

the first samples are taken with an a60 with lenses that go with the A570IS, so I would expect similar results on the a570.

I am afraid that they are really not worth while.

I am trying to find a similar comparison for the official canon adaptor, but that's FAR more expensive!

I was wondering about the official lenses too, or something good quality. The cheap ones are always going to look bad (low resolution, distorsions, nasty fringing).

See http://www.flickr.com/photos/dave_mitchell/sets/72157604041610292/ for some examples of using an adapter, step ring, and a couple of additional lenses on an A570is.

When using lens adaptor tube with flash on you get a large area that flash did not reach, I bought the cheap
eBay set of wide, with a macro lens. The macro has been useful, although I would expect something more
expensive to be better. The wide lens suffers from vignetting which is easy enough to remove with editing.
The lens adaptor is good for using filters.
A720IS.

an0n, could you please post two unretouched photos of a scene with and without the wide angle?

I am wondering wether it's a godd idea or not to send a wide angle with my next balloon....

thanks

Hi Radu

I have a Canon a710 with the Canon wide adaptor. You can check my gallery here:

http://floppyrom.deviantart.com/gallery/

The wide adaptor transformed my camera into something amazing now. I can get so much into frame right now. Yes, It's not the sharpest thing out there but you can process it later in Photoshop.

The disadvantage is that you can't use the flash anymore because it shadows the photo.

The wider shot has Canon adaptor compensation, but I could not see a difference in shots without.
These are low resolution from camera, untouched.
Edit: Forgot to say camera is A720. Just ask if you need more details.

How is the image quality in the "extra area"? ( i mena, in the additional area that you get with the wide angle adaptor)?

You're welcome,
The quality does fall off at the edges, I would give around 6 out of ten for overall image quality, about
what I expected for the price. Most if not all are quite useable, but usually need corrections, mostly for
vignette, and barrel distortion. Also I have tried in low light, when using flash the result is ok, except
for the area masked by adaptor tube is dark.
A720IS.
