Ok, this is a very serious issue that remains unfixed till now I don't know why..  :(

When the LCD of canon S5-IS (running CHDK) is flipped for self-shooting, it turns White and the preview picture appears in rolling waves, but the white color prevails, thus self-shooting is impossible!!

When LCD is flipped back a bit, the preview picture reappears ok, but it's upside down by then and tre LCD is too much flipped to be viewable for self-shooting.

My camera has the firmware 1.0b.

So, is it possible for this serious issue to be fixed finally?
I've built a D.I.Y remote Shutter for my camera and I'm very disappointed that I STILL cannot self-shot myself!

Please let me know if there already is a version that fixes this issue!!

I'm desperately waiting for your help!!!!

By coincidence, I signed on today for the very same reason.  I saw your post, then followed the link in the reply. The white screen is the 'flashlite mode' that is usually turned off.  I had turned it on once when exploring the 'miscellaneous stuff' menu of CHDK.  Of course, I couldn't see what that mode did, since it only cuts in when the LCD is both swung out and flipped. Who knew (RTFM)? Anyway, when I restarted my S5IS without CHDK, the white screen was gone.  Now I know how to have self-portrait mode and CHDK too. I just thought CHDK was using the S5IS display memory for something else, so self-portrait mode was not available.  Now I know that it's just a feature that we inadvertently turned on and forgot to turn off.

O.M.G!!!!
I couldn't imagine that this option was causing this problem!!!
I disabled that option and it worked!!!
