Hi, I'm new here!
I have a 500D, some computer skills (not a hardware hacker tho) and am willing to try dumping the firmware.
I tried the vers.req trick but I couldn't get a version number. Since it's a DSLR I can't start in playback mode, and the key combos don't seem to work. Is there some other way for a DSLR?
I can't use Card Tricks as I'm on Linux, but I've prepared an SD-card for booting. I found udumpfull.zip in
this thread, I'm guessing this is the one to use?
Should I use newdryos.bin or dryos.bin?
What's the difference?
PS Is there any risk of permanently bricking the camera using the above? I guess there's always
some risk, but assume it's not anywhere near e.g. flashing with a 3d party firmware...
PPS No joy using an empty (but otherwise prepped) SD-card. From other posts I figured it should at least avert the boot process to the card and halt, but maybe these newer models are smarter than that?
