Oh. All the timings and spacings in the program are calculated from the screen resolution so it should be correct. But I'll look into it a little later. On my way to buy an S5 as I can't get an S3 :( Such is life.

And let us know if you try the built-in shooting option and how it goes.

(jonnythe, I hope you read this before you got the S5)
Too late. I got the S5 and am loving it. :) I didn't get it to replace the A610. Well not until CHDK will work on the S5 anyway.

Hmmm, I wish I could understand why too small a delay causes problems. Like I said previously a simple script that just keeps looping through a "shoot_full" command works absolutely fine and easily takes a couple of shots every 5 seconds. So why can't I use anything less than a 5 second trigger delay with the motion detection routine? I even tried a script that uses a 'sleep x' function for the delay instead of the detector's built-in delay and it still seems to cause problems. Whether it's a buffer reading/writing sync problem or something????

Wow! You are correct, Barney.

I just tried your script. I have got it down to 180-200ms or so and it seems I can use a delay of 3 seconds instead of 5!

Can you tell me what compare interval you're using in the tests? If you could post all the settings you use in your latest script that give the best response, that would be great.

Nice work Barney Fife!

I tried your latest script, and the horrendous auto focus delay is all gone on my a570is  :D

You're right about the response time being a complicated issue. I played around with the script for a moment, and the first impression was that (I experimented inside in dim daylight) zooming in slows the response time, the "fast shoot" mode is slower to shoot, and that I can either use a faster Trigger Delay (of 2.5 s) in P mode, but not in M mode (4 s was ok).

I wasn't careful to use the same exposure in P and M modes and zooming leads to less light, which could be the sole reason for slower detection. I didn't try to measure the speed (johnnythe's emulator is a Windows exe, I didn't think it'd run as intended under Wine) or tinker with the rows/cols parameters etc. at all yet.
