Hello friends, some might recognize me from lurking in your irc channel. I'm Brutos and I'm bored and I'm reading alot of Sherlock Holmes on my 590IS. This thing is lovely to read on. And since I'm bored I'd like to modify the reader a bit, fixing some annoying bugs and adding a feature to store the position for multiple files. Those are easy things and I'd like to collect some more suggestions. So if something bugs you in the reader tell me I will try to fix and improve it so both me and whoever is reading this has a better experience while reading.
Just don't give me to complicated Stuff, I thought of implementing the plucker format but after I saw some documentation I realized that I'm not yet bored enough to do that :D.

So suggest what you want for the file reader.

Something I've always wanted was for it to have a text editor so I can edit scripts or write notes when out and about. Can you do that?

You must be the biggest masochist in the world if you want to take notes on a device without a keyboard :D

I could do a simple mobile phone like interface the top left button has  ABC the middle top button DEF and so on that could work quite well for a simple editor.

Dunno when I have the time to do this. I have found another coding position for a free game. So I'm less bored and more suicidal :D c++ WITH template metaprogramming makes you want to shot yourself in the hat :D.

Starting text reader from file browser context menu is something that's missing too. Maybe it should be absent under the DCIM hierarchy, though, to prevent cluttering RAW operation command list.

Okay since the vista build was fixed i can start with this thing. One more question I have: Is there some way to run the code in a vm or something like that so I don't have to copy to the sd card back and forth all the time.

Nope. Running CHDK in an actual VM is hard, because it requires the canon firmware and the canon firmware requires all the camera hardware, which is proprietary and undocumented.

You could compile the gui stuff for the PC and link it to your own back end which would emulate the display and buttons. This would be pretty useful and shouldn't be fundamentally difficult but there's lots of annoying details.

There is a program you can use to upload on some cameras, see  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._Do_I_need_a_special_card_reader.2C_or_is_it_sufficient_to_connect_the_cam_to_the_PC.3F
Don't forget what the H stands for.
