CHDK installed on SX10 no worries, but can't get camera to turn on!

Ok, I know I'm being a dickhead, but I am missing something really obvious. I have searched the forums, but no one else was as big a dickhead as me, so it's not in there.

I installed the program onto my 8gb card (want to see it working before i partition card and have it autostart).

I can run the firmware update, and I get the CHDK welcome screen, then it returns to the "No image" screen and nothing further happens. My choices are hit the playback button again (turns the camera off), or hit the power button (turns the camera off).

On a side note, my firmware is 1.01a, but instead of coming up "no errors" mine says e18? I have never dropped or abused the camera, and as far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with it. warranty runs out in  a couple of months, but don't want to get charged for returning to Canon and being told there's nothing wrong with it.

Any suggestions, learned comrades?

Hello & welcome, dragonryda !
I can run the firmware update, and I get the CHDK welcome screen, then it returns to the "No image" screen and nothing further happens. My choices are hit the playback button again (turns the camera off), or hit the power button (turns the camera off).
Press the shutter button once or hold the power btn for ~2 seconds on power-on.

Thank you so much for your help! Got both problems solved now :) The E18 error date was from before the camera arrived in Australia, so i take it it was part of the factory testing. CHDK now running, and I am in the process of learning how to use it. I saw a few times that it can increase photo taking to 4-5 fps, though I suspect they meant the sx1, not the 10. But this would be awesome if true :)

Thanks heaps for your help. You saved me lots of frustrated searching and hair pulling

There's a special scene mode (HighISO / ISO3200) on some of the newer Powershots, the SX1 and also the SX10 (not sure, but i think also the SD990) has this mode.

You can override the ISO with CHDK, this way the images (limitited to 1600x1200) looks ways better than the Canon ISO3200 ones - but the quality is not very good, the images are interpolated from 1024 pixels, the "real" ISO should be somewhere around 200-300.
