Is slightly higher video resolution possible?

I am not talking about 1280x720 on cameras that support only 640x480, but I was wondering if it would be possible, at least in theory, to increase the resolution of the videos (on cameras with sensors that support that) by, say, 740x520 or something like that, at the expense of the frame rate (say, 25 FPS instead of 30 FPS).
Did anyone try to take a look at how the video is encoded?

Hej,
I wonder also, if it's just a problem of sensor speed or something, why my A540 could 640x480 at 30 i/s and 320x240 at 60i/s, then maybe HD cams could do 800x600 at 30 i/s or even 640x480 at 60i/s (or 50 i/s).

Prolly once the hacking gods here have found the way, if there is one...

It is possible (likely IMO) that the sensor and associated hardware only support video at specific resolution.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
