Hi forum

I just loaded on the firmware update pre14-a640-100b-148 (it says on the folder I decompressed) and have got it running on the camera.

2 initial problems:
1) When I press the shutter button something called a default script runs, rather than taking a picture
2) The zoom rocker doesn't seem to work anymore.

At this stage I simply want to shoot raw files - I'll get to the finer points later. How do I go about just taking a simple picture?

Cheers,
Mike

You should exit from <alt> mode (press "direct print" button again, no <ALT> symbol should be on LCD), then use your camera as usual. The <ALT> mode is intended to run scripts, use shortcuts/ execute alt-menu.

That's sorted it! Thanks.

I expect I'll be back with more questions when I've had a play.

Best wishes,
Mike

I'm a new user too.

I'm trying to make photos with a faster shutter speed.
To do this I...

1. go to ALT mode
2. then ALT mode menu
3. navigate to "extra photo operations"
4. I select 1/6400
5. I click "go back"
6. I close the menu
7. I close the ALT mode
8. I go to manual mode, where I normaly enters the shutter but I don't change the duration there.

But this doesn't work for me. it uses the camers normal shutter speed.

What am I doing wrong?
Doesn't this function work for my camera?

I'm having an ixus 950 IS.

Thank you in advance!

(Is there a beginner guide or something out there, btw?)

But this doesn't work for me. it uses the camers normal shutter speed.

Do you mean 1/2000 sec is displayed on shutter half-press ?

The Canon firmware will not display an override shutter-speed faster than its 'native' maximum.

Nevertheless, the photo will be taken with the faster speed.

It may not really be 1/6400 but it should actually be faster than 1/2000 sec.

Try settin an override of 1/500 sec, that should be displayed on half-press.

Haven't even look at the shutter speed on half-press before.
But when I look now, it's 1/60 in auto mode and 1" (native setting) in manual mode, even after I configured it to 1/500 as you suggested.

So it still doesn't seam to work for me.

I must be doing something wrong...
Can you guide me through all the steps to take, to make this work?
