CHDK making changes

I had to unlock my SD card so CHDK would not load for some pics I took.  upon locking the card again and trying to use, the pictures started coming out with a CRW extension, and windows could not read/display the photo.

Does unlocking  then locking agian cause changes to the CHDK settings?  I was going to just re download the CHDK and copy it over for defaults.  Any suggestions??

You don't need to copy a new CHDK over the old - CHDK configuration
is in  CCHDK.CFG, in the CHDK folder on your card. Either remove or rename it,
and CHDK will start with default settings.

Does that happen (makes changes to settings) when you unlock, use, then lock the SD card?

No, at least, it never happened to me.
But, if you did not shut down the cam while removing/unlocking/reinserting the card, then it would
be possible that CHDK did not save it's latest settings - CHDK saves it's current settings when the cam
is shut down.

Thanks, I'll try the rename route.

Is there an easy way to convert the CRW files for viewing in Windows XP ?

What about files that I already have?  I think i have some good shots but i can't see them except thru the cameras view.  Any good converter apps?

now i'm confused:
even if your cam was set to take RAWs, it will still also take JPGs as well; any pictures that you can see
on your cam in review mode must be present as JPG, or you would not see them ...
FWIW i use RawTherapee to convert - but check the RAW board (as linked in post #5) for more

@Clown

1st:)
You should add your camera type to your signature or profile, this way we know what camera you're using - we could also suggest software / converters then...
...but since we don't know your camera model, we don't know whether e.g. DCRAW or DNG4PS-2 can convert your images, also we can't say whether viewers like XNVIEW, FASTSTONE IMAGE VIEWER or Google's PICASA can read (and save / convert) your images...

2nd:)

As whim said - no, definitively not; i guess you accidentialy pressed the RAW ON / OFF shortcut key on your camera...
(which one ? - i don't know your camera, so i don't know your short cut - maybe DISP in <Alt> mode ? )

3rd:)
There's no need to re-install CHDK; just reset the CHDK configuration to the defaults: menu Miscellaneous stuff -- Reset options to default....
