powershot=movie player?

 Hello guys,
I've been wondering if you could upload any *.avi movie to a canon camera and use it as a video player. I know that when you record a video the camera saves two files *.avi and *.THM so the THM file must be working as a codec of some sort or something. Or does the uploaded video has to have the same parameters as the one recorded on the camera?

Thanks for the replies!

THM stands for thumbnail, has nothing to do with codec.

Older powershots are MJPEG in an AVI container, newer ones are x264 in a quicktime MOV container.

I would expect the camera to only be able to play videos in it's native format.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
