Hello everybody,
nice to be here with you.

Actually I need a little help: i tried to use CHDK for SX120 IS. Every thing went seemingly allright until I reached the step as written in the text:
"- Scroll to the bottom of the menu to the "Firm Update" option which should now be available. If by chance that you fail to see the "Firm Update" menu option try pressing your Playback button twice. You might have to wait 2 seconds between presses. When this is done right the lens will retract and go into a power-saving viewer/slideshow playback mode. This seems to be an option on most Powershot Cameras."
The point is I "fail to see the "Firmupdate" and pressint the Playback button twice doesn't work either, so that I can't load chdk :-)
Does any one know what I did wrong? Is there somewhere som thread I overlooked?
Thanks a lot for any help
Alain

Hello & welcome, Alain!

"- Scroll to the bottom of the menu to the "Firm Update" option which should now be available. If by chance that you fail to see the "Firm Update" menu option try pressing your Playback button twice. You might have to wait 2 seconds between presses.
That's wrong/not correct...  ;)

1) Make sure the file PS.FI2 is placed in the root of your SD card.
2) Make sure there's at least one still image (a JPG image file) on your SD card
3) Make sure the last file shown on the camera (in preview mode) is a still image, not a video file
4) Power on your camera in PLAYBACK mode, with the [>] button

--> when you power on with the ON/OFF (power) button, the menu item will NOT be visible
--> the lens mechanics must be retracted, otherwise the menu item will NOT be visible

BTW - i don't know which build you are using...
I suggest to load a full package ("Komplett") from the CHDKDE Autobuild Server & expand all files & folders to your card's root using a card reader.

--> For english language simply rename or remove the file  /CHDK/LANG/german.lng

I tried loading it but the camera seems to just turn itself off when I "OK" the updating of the firmware version (from 1.0.0.0 to 1.1.0.0).
It says I have firmware version GM1.00B  E18
What am I doping wrong?
I'm following the instructions to the letter.

For you all with black screen trouble when you try to update the firmware.

Just do this. this [admin: avoid swearing please] helped us

keep the play button pressed all the way.

if you do this, after pressing ok to update the firmware, the screen will go black and immediate power up with CHDK

This helped us, so maybe it will help you

I've managed to boot CDHK manually, as said in post #503. But it's awful having to reprogram zebra-mode and RAW recording every time.

I'll try the automatic boot. Since I'm a linux user, Cardtricks doesn't work for me. It seems necessary to use a little command typing in the shell-script, because only gparted boot flag doesn't make it bootable at all.

When I'm done, I'll post here!

See ya!

Hello & welcome, ristow !

The settings you made should be saved in the config file & should be available after restarting the camera...
Some settings are not stored by default, e.g. some settings in the "Extra Photo Operations" menu - set the "Clear xxx at start" options to your needs...

Thanks, fe50!

I'm really excited with this CHDK. The reprogramming is actually not necessary, as you said. But, I managed to boot automatically!! The instructions in the link you posted above works just fine!

I know a little of german to understand the menu, but it would br much easier if it is english. Is there a version for SX120 in english?

Thanks a lot! And see you!

Just delete or rename 'german.lng' in the CHDK/LANG folder on your card, and it'll switch to English.

hope that helps,

wim
