I am using windows 7 on my laptop...
Something I wonder about...there is no setting for formatting in FAT 16, only FAT, NTFS, Fat 32, and exFAT... I do have a desktop with XP Pro in it...but it is not connected to the internet. Could load the zip file on a thumb drive and transfer it...

No problem, FAT and FAT16 is the same ... Note that you can only format cards of max. 4 GB to FAT/FAT16,

I'm using a 2 gb sd card.  I downloaded the file again through Acid. It is for the 100b. This file doesn't have the CHDK folder.

The one for the IXUS120-_sd940-100e-09.9-1210-full beta has the CHDK folder. This is the one I got the first time I downloaded using Acid. That did not work at all...got the error. So, I ran Acid again and it came up with

I downloaded and unzipped it after reformatting the card...still did not work.  I tried the IXUS file, then installed the other one over it.
I got part of it to work once. It showed the battery level and something about scripts.  I shut it down, then tried it again.

I get "update firmware version?
1.03030 (right arrow) 1.1.0.0
I hit ok and it shows a quick red screen then goes backto a picture.

I also tried this one...this time it gave me the CHDK folder, but I still get the red screen with white lettering something about version something...goes away too fast and I can't catch what it says.

Ha, getting somewhere now. The 'quick red screen' is the CHDK logo showing for a second or so.
Now, to get into the CHDK menu, first press the "Print" button, and "<Alt>" should appear
at bottom center of your screen. Now press "MENU" to get into the CHDK menu.
Probably a good idea to download the CHDK User Guide here


Hope that's enough to get you started,

PS If the menu is in German, find the CHDK\LANG folder on your card, and delete the 'german.lng'
file in it - that will make the menu show up in English

I finally got by downloading Card Tricks...but it is in German or something I can't understand... I know I have read how to change the language...just gotta go find it...  I do appreciate all the help.  I just looked at your post after I posted this one...:) I will definitely download the guide...Now I am getting excited!!  :) :)
