A640 DNG trouble... solved!!!

I use CHDK version a640-100b-0.9.8-779-full.

cannot create badpixel.bin in the camera with the badpixel.lua script.

after I created badpixel.bin manually on pc the A640 would turn off immediately after pressing shutter release (with DNG activated) with the lens extracted and open. the picture before is not saved.

if I turn DNG off everything works.

please help.

Are you certain you have 100b firmware on the camera?  If you have a different version of the firmware then that build may not work for you.

@HarpoMa

there's only 1 known firmware version for A640, and in view of it's age i find it
kind of hard to believe a new one has just turned up  ;)

cannot create badpixel.bin in the camera with the badpixel.lua script.
What happens when you run the script ?
Do you get an error message or does the camera crash ?

I guess there's something wrong with the file you're using.

Delete your badpixel.bin file and copy the file attached to this post to the \CHDK folder of your SD card; it's just a dummy file for testing, no badpixels will be removed but the DNG support is still available...

Does it work with the dummy file ?

no crash just says "run the script again" if I run it again there's no change.

I will try your file later today.

Wim,

I figure you have the A630, this is a very close match to A640 ;)

do you shoot DNG?

cheers,

@dragra
I just checked for you, cam (A630) at this point had an almost default
trunk 802 install, and refused to activate DNG ("Please run badpixel.lua etc...")

1. started cam in play mode, activated RAW and set 'badpixel.lua' as default script
2. set camera to P mode and start in shoot mode
3. press Print/Alt key -> badpixel.lua appears to the left of <Alt> indicator
4. push full shutter: it says script started, don't panic etc.
5. cam takes 2 shots with long-ish (15-20 sec ?) pauses with black screen
    after each shot
6. finally, screen comes back on, left bottom says xxx bad pixels -  press Func
    to save
7. pressed Func, and then Print to leave Alt mode, and shut down cam
8. after restarting in play mode i could activate DNG options

hope that helps,

wim

edit: took a test shot -> DNG created (as seen in File browser)
        can also see 2 CRWs created by the 2 shots fired by the script

@wim

first I started the <badpixel.lua> script again as you suggested, but there was no success. same story as before with the end message "run the script again".

then I tried your file <badpixel.bin> and now it works like a charm!

thank you very much!  :D

cheers,
D.

I guess you mean the badpixel.bin dummy file from reply #3 ?

So there's going something wrong while creating your own badpixel.bin file - how did you create the file ?

You should NOT use the dummy badpixel file, otherwise the bad pixels which normally will be removed by the original Canon firmware will be visible as black dots in you DNG images.

Read this article from the CHDK wikia...
On a Windows system, use the file from this link.
