CHDK for IXUS 120 IS vs CHDK for XS120 IS. Eh?

Hi all,

So, long time lurker, first time buyer. I've just aquired a new Canon IXUS 120 IS series camera, and I've started doing some reading into the CHDK fw for the 120. However, on close inspection, it suggests that the CHDK fw currently under development is actually for the SX120, which is an entirely different camera, albeit still with a DigicIV proc.

Questions:

1. If I could somehow dump the fw out of the IXUS 120 IS, is there active interest in CHDK'ing it?
2. Is it even possible to CHDK this hardware type?
3. I'm not going nuts here, am I? They are indeed two entirely different cameras? (!).

It's likely that CHDK can be ported to this camera, but there is no progress yet.

XS is not a canon designation that I know of. There is an SX120, which is indeed a very different camera http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SX120 There is no port for this either, although a firmware dump as been made.

Thanks for the quick reply reyalp.

I'd actually made a typo there. turns out it's really known as "SX", not "XS". My bad.

I have the IXUS 120 IS (the SD940IS). I will be able to fill in the blanks for you guys and start the process off. This might be fun :).

Looking forward to working with the CHDK crew, actually.

Some good news. I've managed to pull out the fw strings:

I've added them to the wiki.

Had a good crack at dumping the firmware, using the very latest CardTricks to format/add "NewDryOS" diskboot.bin to the card et al. Drops into hang state, but doesn't seem to dump any valid fw from PRAM/PROM.

I'll take this discussion over to the dumping section...
