why not to make camera as TCP/IP server over USB
it can allow
1) web cam interface
2) samba implementation (worst case is - UDP TFTP server)

Firstly, it would be better to learn how to use USB as such. ;)

If one process (task) makes all work I would sugest to kill it and do some other work instead of original task
