e-mailed yoiu phil, but will post here as well...

the test version didn't fix anything sadly (thanks so much for trying)

the msleep that bernd R patched stopped the startup crashes but caused scripts ( not sure if all) to stop working

bdasmith: maybe it is some problem in CHDK-Shell. As you noticed SX20 is not listed by default in the latest trunk. I had to remove some empty lines from trunk1066/Makefile so SX20 appeared in the program. Also maybe i had to specify some additional compiling flags to allow script runs. I am not familiar with it such as i am newbie.

My guess is, there are wrong option in chdk shell set.have you enable some options ?
DONT enable OPT_EXMEM_MALLOC.this on some camera in filebrowser crash, a fix that work on at least 2 Cameras is in exmem thread

you can upload a screenshot of the window that is show when you press compiler Options button, so can see more.

EDIT:

>os.remove("A/MDTST0): ERR A/MDTST0: error FAIL

I see in the libtest log postet here, the remove command do too not work on this camera.same Problem Ixus 1000 have.
seem a common problem that remove not work on newer camera.here is the thread i explain more

I don't want to sound negative but if you remember back I stated that I had never had a crash before December of 2010 so this must be something that was added and is causing that to happen. ::) Those crash at startup have only begun in the beginning of December.

hello world

Yesterday download CHDK Shell, interesting and easy to use. I do not see SX20 in trunk 1066 or 1067 but yes! in 578 to 579 (DE).
I was compile a version without games, this gives much more stability, anyway It does not solve the problem.
I attempt to change data that leave "Bernd R" in boot.c, sure I did wrong. not work!.
Can leave a boot.c fixed (SX20 firmware 1.0.2B), for test in my camera?        ahhh.... my english!!....  :-X

NEZtron: you need to remove empty lines from Makefile and then you will see sx20 in latest trunk

thats the big problem with timing relatet Problems.all work fine, until the time of executing diffrent tasks change due to add of new code, other SD Card or something else.on my camera also work fine with older release.

you can see that as a train drive over a road at 3 oclock nightly only.

if nobody move the road at 3 o clock AM all is ok, but if somebody come at 3 oclock and there is no train gate that the driver on the road should not pass, crash.

and the sleep command do the delay that only at 4 AM the train line can pass.

@vtysh

maybe you must activate OPT_LUA_CALL_NATIVE.I have enable it on my builds always.dont know for what its need.

To see if the msleep is the problem or something wrong with your compile, you can remove the boot patch and try it.does it work then ?
