Hi bdasmith & Bernd R ,

I have 3 slightly different versions of 1.02d for testing. Can you please test if any of them solves your crashes at startup? This is a different approach not using sleep. Hopefully the scripts will also work fine. Here is a link to download: http://www.mediafire.com/?44810rgem9pdvho

I'm sorry ultima...none of those stopped it from crashing...

can you look at the romlog that i had posted a few posts back?

Maybe that will help?

have you test if mint.lua work now on his builds ?

I have always problems on my Camera to run lots of lua scripts.there come stupid syntax error messages.

I search several minutes and i do not find the link of the mint.lua you use.so please post it again.

I get in mind there is a diffrence in string handling when compile with a windows compiler or linux compiler for ARM.

On windows every string contain at end a 0x0d 0x0a.on Linux its diffrent.

try this mint.lua i have copy from chdk wiki in windows Editor and save.
this script move out the lens (when i was in play mode) and shoot a image with my camera.

work this better on your chdkshell build ?

What philmoz wrote earlier about the possibly wrong task hooking is probably right when I looked at it. So these last three versions were centered around a new initialization. It could have been the cause for the startup crashes, though it seems like it wasn't. Anyway, these new builds also seem to work on my camera based on the past almost two days of testing.

The issue with the scripts is something totally different an I don't intend to have a look at that at all. It is caused by the sleep-"fix", which is already a hack anyway and I really prefer to look for the real solution of the original problem. Even if you can get the script working by some different sleep-value, it'll probably only work as long as you can guarantee the same timing conditions on the camera - which can/will change based on a lot of factors.

I'm still interested in helping you solve the startup crashes, I just need some new idea what/where to look for. A really good starting point would be to find out what the difference is between our setups. How can it be that we are running on the same hardware, same factory firmware, same CHDK version and we see totally different behavior (for me and for a lot of others it is very stable, for you 3-5 guys there are frequent crashes). There MUST be a difference somewhere that triggers those crashes. Finding that out would probably help a lot, and even if we don't find a fix, it will make you able to avoid it.

when i understand correct, the problem is also without changes in.

now i read more carefully all posts back, and find his mint.lua script here

http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=4348.msg62042#msg62042

I test it on my camera, it fail, but my script work.

I see the diffrence to my script  is the last line have no 0x0d 0x0a at end of line.so there is no return press in editor to end the line.
I notice this earlier i must always press  return in editor on last line or ubasic or lua scripts fail.

But when this scripts work on the autobuilds, (i guess they are done with linux compiler) and fail with chdk shell builds that use windows compilers, there seem some diffrence in the compiler handling the end of line code.

I have no idea, maybe i should start a new thread.
But to confirm more, please test on your builds(first without sleep patch, then with sleep patch) my mint.lua file, if this work on your Camera too.

See here, i have explain how a better fix should look like.

@Bernd R
your "mint.lua" with sleep zzZZ patch works well and... the camera without problem run well with the zzZZ  patch.
Clearly is better find the real problem of strar problem.

Ultima, I am so glad you are so willing to help with this, and yes, it sure is strange that you don't have any problems and we do.

what i've found -

- when I download the autobuild from the server, that script mint.lua and others work fine, but when I use chdk shell to compile my own build with NO changes (i run windows 7 64bit)  that script will not run - gives error :24: unexpected symbol

- when i use the msleep change, the script returns :24:

- the script doesn't work with your experimental builds either.

so i don't know if the script not working is the msleep or just because of chdk shell as the compiler.

what do you use to compile your builds?
