Change the way mirror lock-up works

I have been chatting with someone in a thread:
http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/DisplayComments.php?file=Digital%20Camera/Canon/MLU_control_for_original_Canon_5D_.not_MKII.

This person wants to change the way mirror lock-up works. He wants mirror to stay up for 200 shots before coming back down. Basically he wants to control when mirror is flipped up and flipped down on the Canon EOS 5D. Is that possible with CHDK?

CHDK does not support DSLRs and almost certainly never will. You can check the DSLR hacking forum for in progress DSLR hacks http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/board,33.0.html

Why is it that it will never be supported on DSLR?

Because the differences between the DSLR firmware and the P&S firmware are big enough that whatever runs on the DSLR won't be closely related to CHDK.

I guess what you are saying is that there will possibly be a firmware hack for the DSLR, it's just that it is not the CHDK and it won't be called "CHDK". Right?

Basically yes.

Obviously the abbreviation CHDK would suit any Canon DSLR hack just as well as it does for these point&shoots, but the way we know and love CHDK is a SVN repository with nightly builds for Canon point&shoots built around Digic II/III/IV. There's no sense in attempting to add DSLR stuff in the CHDK source tree since the two product groups have so little in common. We aren't adding i-pod hacks in the CHDK source tree either...

None of this means DSLRs couldn't be hacked in every which way you can possibly think of. It's a matter of finding eager developers that don't mind bricking a DSLR or two to find out what they can achieve. Some things have already been demonstrated as you can find in the dslr hacking section.
