G9 shutter speed override not working

Hi all, I have a G9 with 1.00I software upgrade installed. My father gave me the camera and bought a G10 because the flash is not working. I hoped that a firmware upgrade or chdk would've solved it. No luck there...

I've been playing around with CHDK and it is a mighty cool proj. Tnx guys! I am looking to take some nigtht time panorama's and will be spending a few weeks in the desert next year (great starlight photo's).  For these purposes I need a shutterspeed of more than 15s. The override does not work on my camera. When having the shutter speed in the OSD set, upon a half press it shows 64s, but the real value showed at the end of the photo is simply the 1.3s or some other preset value. What am I doing wrong?

Just for the record, I tried the disable overrides in all three modes, On, Off and Disable. What is the difference between off and disable? When the mode is on, the OSD clearly shows overrides are disabled. In various modes (manual, tv, auto etc) I can see the CHDK osd showing 64 and when firing it goes to the photo preset. The canon original OSD shows 15" for a short period, then goes to the calculated value as before.

Is it worth while trying the chdk version that the camera first had? (Thought it was 1.00D) or will that most definitely not work?

Hello & welcome, NTwoO !

...answers for both post:

Set up the camera to 15s long exposure from the Canon menu, you'll see 15" on the Canon OSD;
then set your overrides in the CHDK menu:

-> set Override shutter speed to the value (in seconds) you want to use, e.g. to 64
-> set Value factor to 1

If the override is active, you'll see TV:64 in the upper left corner of the OSD...

Read here: CHDK usage: Disable Overrides.

The Canon OSD will never show the CHDK overrides, you can enable the CHDK OSD from the OSD menu...

There are also lots of post about this here in the forum, pls. use the search function...

I've been searching through the forum if more people encounter this problem. Unfortunately very little was found.

With the canon shutter speed set to 15", the disable overrides set to disable and the chdk shutter speed set to evstep, 1 and 64, the CHDK Tv OSD changes between 16 and 64. On pressing it shows 64, but the shutter is only open for 16 seconds. (when counted). Setting the it to factor and 100 does not provide a solution either. It does look as if the Av setting is used correctly when set to F11

Still at a loss. What must I do to get into the development? My programming skills are at a reasonably high level.

I would however be very surprised if shutter overrides were just completely broken on the G9
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I think I've found the problem...

On the forum someone else had the following problem: The overrides did not work if an external flash is connected. The internal flash will not work and it might be that it is falsely detecting something connected in the hot shoe. This camera thus has a hardware problem that makes the overrides not possible  :(

Hi guys,

I've found the problem. It was the flash switch. I opened up the camera and fixed the switch. Camera is taking long exposures now. WOOOT!
