Has anyone done any work with deep water photography?  

I think I've figured out the housing -- but I'm interested in ideas for linking to external flash(es) or strobes.  I don't want to use the cameras own flash for fairly obvious reasons (it's wimpy and it's in the same box as the camera). 

Are there multiple ways to link up an a570 to an external flash?  I don't want to use a slave flash if it means also utilizing the cameras own flash as I presume reflections from the inside of the housing would be bad. 

The goal is rockfish in 100-200 feet of water.  I would probably start out using bait.  I could use a wimpy light and motion detect, an external trigger, or intervalometer.

There are plenty of underwater housings available for Canon cameras - check out the Canon version at http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk/d_stills/canon/a570/a570is.html

You can use the camera's own flash if you want to but the main problems are it's power and it's location right next to the lens. For a better effect you need to use an external strobe like the ones here:

The best way to use an external flash like this on a compact camera is to use a fibre optic cable - this sends the internal flash burst to the slave flash - reflections aren't a problem so don't worry about that but you can block off the internal flash if you want to (although make sure the fibre optic cable is underneath it!)
