I thought that some are confused with CRW and CR2 extensions because they are not native Canon extensions. Why not introduce some new, genuine CHDK extension e.g. CHD, CHK or CR3 ?

The old extensions were chosen to be able to download such files from a camera using standard way. Not any extensions are visible when you connect a camera to PC.

I support a new extension too. And then a new open RAW file format.
