First of all, what does your Mac do when it sees that the camera is connected for thirty seconds ?

that's fine, got my computer to automatically download the photo and delete it from the sd card

Just for my own information, as I do not know anything about Mac's, please describe exactly what software you are using and what happens.

Image Capture.app and Automator.app both come as part of with Mac OS 10.(4+ i think?).

Image Capture > Preferences > Camera
When a camera is connected, open: [choose anything here]

In Automator you can create a workflow that downloads files from the camera, and does what you want with them (like append them to the end of a stop frame animation you're working on). Once you've created the workflow that's good for you then you can package it into your own app.

Save this app somewhere and select it in the option in image capture.

all i need now is for the script to fire by itself after the shutter is released.

Not sure what you mean, please explain.

as i said from the beginning.

i have a usb switch that will fire the shutter on my camera.

after the shutter has fired i want to download the photo.

i have got to the stage where i can fire the shutter on my camera from the usb remote.

using the alt and then shutter button i can fire the script you gave me to switch the camera to and from playback mode.

my computer will then automatically download the photo.

-----

so all i need to do now is get your script to fire automatically after the shutter is released.

Check the uBasic commands here http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/sdm/ubasic.htm

At the start of your script put something like :-

wait_for_switch_press
shoot
wait_for_switch_press
upload_images_for 30
end

That just does it once.

hi,

still having problems getting this to work, bear in mind that i'm unfamiliar with scripting in chdk or smd.

when i have everything setup i do not want to have to touch any controls on the camera. i want to hit the usb remote, take a shot, switch to playback mode, and back.

at the moment i cannot achieve this without hitting something on the camera at some point.

with your script i was able to focus using the shutter button on the camera, then take the shot using the usb remote, then the camera automatically switched to playback mode and my computer downloaded the files.

but i am unable to trigger the shutter entirely using the usb remote.

Just to be clear, you start the script and the first press of the switch should take the photo and the second press uploads the photo..

Does that work ?

If so, we can arrange for the script to start on power-up and continually wait for you to press the switch.

one press of the usb remote should take a photo, switch to playback mode, wait, switch back to record mode.

it is my understanding that scripts only run in "alt mode", ie. the name of the script is viewable in the bottom left corner.

in this mode i cannot get the usb switch to take a photo.

the usb switch works to take a photo when not in "alt mode"

using the script you posted, it will run when you hit the shutter button on the camera.

You start a script by pressing the shutter button in ALT mode.
'wait_for_switch_press' should then wait until you press your USB switch.

Are you saying that it does not ?
